    Hey guys,
If you've ever riden your VFR in Summer you'll know how difficult it is to keep the engine temp down. I've installed a manual fan switch, as many other have, and in Summer I switch it on pretty much asap but the bike will still get over 100C no problem.

Now until a few days ago when reading on another forum, I wasn't aware that a higher pressure radiator cap can help keep the coolant from boiling. Has anyone tried using a non-standard radiator cap in their VFR? Does it help with keeping temeratures down in Summer?

What are some other things that I could do to keep the temp down?

CHANGE your coolant if it's over 3 years old, get all the dried, encrusted insects off the radiator, straighten any damaged fins on radiator or oil cooler.

Coolant wats changed last year, along with the thermostat and water temp switch. Radiators panels are in good condition.

try switching out the coolant for engine ice.
or if you do not have to worry about freezing temps, use straight distilled water and water wetter.
these products are much better at transfering heat than coolant is.
also the higher pressure caps not gonna lower temps, it will just raise the boiling point.
you are not boiling over are you? coolant under the stock 15 psi cap's pressure shouldnt boil over until well over 250* and you NEVER want to drive your bike near 250*. i personally have had my bike up to 230* with watter wetter and no coolant. it never boiled over, so i think the high pressure caps not gonna help you out...

The Suzuki 1400 Intruder engine uses NO radiator only a small oil cooler!

I would think about adding an oil cooler.

I don't know about the 5G, but the 4G already has an oil cooler.

Are there any automotive radiator caps that will interchange with the 1990-1993 VFR radiator caps?

Yes, the 5th already has an oil cooler. A higher pressure cap will not lower your temps unless you have been boiling over in which case you may have a defective cap on the bike. If that is the case replacing it with the stock cap is sufficiant. Other than the sugestions listed above I would recomend thermal wraping your headers and cleaning your engine if it is covered in any grime. Also if you are boiling coolant over make sure you proporly burp the coolant system so you have no air pockets.

Thanks Steven113, that makes sense. I was looking for an interchange car radiator pressure cap with the same pressure range. More trying to keep prices down than modify the cooling system.
