Very good analogy! Yeah, I know I'd miss her. I still miss my old sv650 for some reason. I guess I've got a wandering eye (for bikes that is). The old lady is great and all, but the young, sexy fireball keeps walking back and forth in front of me.

I had an 07 CBR 1000RR that I bought new. Power wheelies are a snap on the bike if you are so inclined. and the new 08-09s are even more user friendly and powerful. If I could float owning two bikes past the wife, I'd also have the CBR 1k in the garage. Since thats not an option now, the VFR is the best balanced ride for me.

I owned the CBR 1kRR for about six months and traded it for the VFR. I ride 4-6 hour rides on the weekend and after 30 minutes, I was tired, numb, and ready to call it a day. Honda Red Rider magizine had an article about changing the clip-ons and some other mods to make it more confortable. The entire layout of the bike is just not set up fo the average rider to ride all day, IMHO. But for short rides, the CBR is the most balanced liter bike out there. Tons of fun.

 

If the pundits are capable of a truthfull and unbiased article/opinion(and of course they are) than there hasn't been a publication released since '08 that would choose another Japanese litre bike over the CBR. In fact I subscribe to a British magazine " Bike " that had more than one test rider recently state a CBR would find it's way in to their garages before any other regular production bike on the planet would, includeing some of those Italian born red bikes.

Just watch an Isle of Man and you can see how tough and aggresively road ready they are, especially from '08 forward. Not to mention pure track ready with the simple addition of an Ohlins spring.

I rode one last week and followed it up with a test ride on the new cross plank R1. I would have to agree with those test riders, the two bikes aren't really even in the same league when one considers throttle and handling. CBR=ready to ride track and street, R1=no off and on again throttle in mid corner without some very unsettling moments and forget about proper riding in traffic, the throttle is that bad!

All great info, thanks for throwing up this thread, as I find myself looking here and there too now that I have unfortunately time on my hands. I found up here in WA where a dealer has 07 for $6400 pretty sure that's not OTD, still a pretty good deal, Now if I could get a whopper of a deal like that on a pearl white 09 then I'm giggles. I wouldn't mind trying on one of these for size while I still can, even though it's going to be a few months yet, believe this is the right time of the year for deals to start showing up for any brand. Now isn't this fun trying to decide, all though every time I look at the pocket book, man that 4th gen is a hard bike to beat for the money.

 

Ditto, I wish I were more of a two bike guy. I've always thought a VFR wanting in a few areas, the same as a pure sport would want in some areas when compared to a VFR. I guess that's why I've always got an eye opened to the right deal. So far though VFR seperation anxiety has prevented any real thoughts of another superbike purchase.

Not gonna do it. I love my VFR too much to bring another bike into the fold. If I would have bought it, I know I would've ended up selling the VFR. A 5th gen VFR is uncommon nowadays. I may see one, two, or none on a given day. However, I see many CBRs. Plus the power is perfect for me. I may end up Raceteching the front suspension for my weight and doing something about the shock to make it better on the twisties. Just rode about 120 miles today and I was reminded of why I bought this bike.

 

dealers around here are advertising for 6799-7200 be for tax tile and licenceing the dealer i work for doesnt charge freight and setup fees i paid 6999 + tax title and licence

 

I looked into the 08 cbr for a bit and came across a lot about them eating oil. Something about bad rings. I do not know if it was fixed but it may be worth looking into a bit. Those are some darn good prices you guys are getting though.
