I just bought an '06 yesterday. I've had a '93 CBR1000F since I was a teenager (I bought it in '95) so this is only the second sportbike I've ever owned.

First impressions: light! I hear people say the 6th gen is heavy, but grow up on a top heavy 550lb and this thing feels like a bicycle.

Not feeling the sound. It might just take some getting used to, but my 1k even with the stock pipes makes a satisfying scream when I wind it up. The VFR has more of a "clockwork" sound if that makes sense. Maybe new pipes would make this better?

The feeling of nimbleness is really cool. The 1k has a real feeling of solidity in the corners - like a locomotive. And it really throws you back when you pour it on. The VFR feels responsive, but also a little bit sketchy and definitely doesn't give you the same feeling of power. It just accelerates quickly to whatever speed you want without drama. I want to take some track lessons so I can feel like I really know how to control it.

Fit: Ironically my legs actually fit better on this smaller bike. I'm 6'4" and the crease in the tank for my legs was not big enough. The tiny windscreen is going to be a problem. When I crouch and look down at the instruments, I'm actually looking down at the top of the windscreen. The wind is now hitting me square in the chest where as on the 1k it hit me at the bottom of the helmet. I have some ideas for what to do about this.

    That's all for now.

Keep us posted. I'm looking to buy an '06 myself. Never ridden a VFR before. More recently I've been riding a big Harley Electraglide, & it just leaves me wanting something with more oomph! Large displacement doesn't translate into a sense of more power. I'm 6' - 00", hopefully I don't have the same wind problem.

I've checked some after market pipes on youtube and they do sound good, but don't they result in less power and / or fuel efficiency? I'm sure I've read that somewhere....

Lower fuel efficiency, but more power as I understand it. (As long as you rejet/remap to take advantage of more flow).
