There's plenty room for anyone interested brother Bubba, however, if the man has been teaching himself to write in Latin just for giggles, he may be out of my league Haaaahaaaaa

Latin for fun? Not with the Jesuit I had for a teacher. One year and I switched to Spanish. Dude was tough!

Current books: "The Age of Wonder" by Richard Holmes. 18th century discoveries and science mostly by our Brit Cousins.

"Dark Justice" by Jack Higgens.Compact badass mick does shit to bad guys.

"Layers" by Matt Kloskowski. Stuff about Photoshop.

Had to do all the "classics". Thesis on Edgar Rice Burroughs.

Tarzan: "Me Tarzan, you Cheeta; Tarzan love Cheeta!"

Cheeta: "Naaah dude, you're just in heat."

I feel like we have shamelessly hijacked echo's thread, going from 1%ers to what books are you reading. Sorry Echo.

Bubba and I have an ongoing discussion/debate on McCarthy's Blood Meridian going on. He being Bubba has been drawing allegories to Judeo Christian belief systems and I have been wallowing in it's mindless meaningless violence.

Now that I think of it one could draw some pretty good parallels between the book and it's characters and biker gangs

Or we could just start a new thread heheee

Most threads sort of veer off the chosen path much like a bunch of dudes ass ending a Winnebago at a bottleneck on an Interstate. Kind of like the "pitchurs on the TEEVEE" of natural disasters like hurricanes or earthquakes as viewed on a 2X3 ratio 24" diagonal CRT.

I have not read that book. I do find that there is a great deal of parallelism in Judeo/Christian beliefs and wallowing in violence. One only needs to look to the Old Testament. Then ya got little Davey whuppin ass on all those Filipinos in the new version.

Hopefully we are speaking to the novel here and not the rock group of the same name..LOL The creativity never ceases..

Maybe someday the book will be a musical..

So you think if it was sport bikes it would not have happened? Bull.
Think about it more carefully. The SUV's slammed on the brakes what would prepare you for that? Go read the news story again maybe that will help.

    Badbilly:

That’s were the band got their name; “Blood Meridian, or the Evening Redness in the West” is a novel not easily forgotten once read.

Brother Bear and I have had a splendid time in our discussions. The only thing permitting more discussions has been time. And I have to say Badbilly you should defiantly read this novel. You are already aware of the Old Testament parallels and you are one of the few people on this board I’ve seen who understands “the rule of law”.

I never mention anything about other types of bikes. It's not about the type of bikes, It's about the rider/drivers.

OK here's my bitch! I've studied and thought about this for years. MOST people don't know how to drive/ride!. They only know how to operate a vehicle. They can put the key in and turn it, use the vertical and horizontal pedals to go and stop. They can move that sticky thing in to P,R and D. And that's about it. When everything is going normal they are OK. When things change from normal driving they don't have a clue on what to do! They are actually OPERATORS not drivers/riders. They really don't have any driving/riding skills or experiences in what a vehicle can do when controlled by someone with skills to control a vehicle or the REACTION times/skill to make a vehicle do what it has to to avoid collisions or at least make them less damaging.

You can see this on tv shows like "Cops". Someone going the wrong way on a highway. At least a 1/4 mile straight with clear visibility. Neither of the drivers take action they freeze and run in to each other head on! Nobody reacts to avoid a collision or they just jam on the brakes. The Ford Explorer Firestone tire debacle. They were fliping vehicles because of a blown out tire! Car & Driver did a test with one trying to find out how these vehicles flip. Well they made it to 70mph and blew out the tire. Hands off the wheel and the vehicle went straight! So how did they flip? Operator in put. The wrong input or an over reaction. You'r supposed to be able to controll a vehicle when a tire blows out. Not a big deal unless your flying in to a corner at higher speeds may be.

This site also proves my point. How many riders don't know about counter steering, that the front brakes are at least 70% of your stopping power. That's why there are things like linked brakes, ABS and other safety devices. Because most people don't know how to DRIVE, just operate. They have no feel for a vehicle, no reaction of when and what to do outside the normal operating parameters and most don't really care. They just want to go from point A to B.

Now put these same people on motorcycles. It's been pointed out all the wrong things this group was doing riding in their pack down the road. Now a SUV slams on it's brakes at 65mph(theoretically). I can understand your point about "what would prepare you for that? " for the first two or three rows may be. But 9,10,12 rows back they had plenty of time for reaction to the situation! What happened? They just ran into each other like dominoes. Shows very little skill in handling a vehicle. They had plenty of run off room. That was shown in the video. A quick flick of the bars and your along side not into the vehicle in front. Whether a cruiser or sport bike they steer by counter steering. Unless it's a Buell. How much time did they spend trying to stop in a straight line instead of taking avoidance maneuvers?

Our system of licensing sucks in this country. They make it easy for anybody to get a license. If you can drive around the block at 30mph, beable to get in/out of car by yourself and know what the colored lights mean and what a stop sign looks like you can drive in the US of A. No real skills needed. Now put those same people on motorcycles and you have a recipe for just what happened.

How many people here know guys that have been riding for years and never heard of counter steering, don't know how to take a corner properly or how to brake correctly. I see people all the time enter a corner then start to turn or start braking way to late. Wrong, wrong wrong all wrong. How many people here have taken track days/rider coarses? Did that improve your riding skills. A little education and practice makes you a better driver/rider anytime. For all the people that gets killed in accidents (most are caused) most don't even think about being safer and protecting your family better by knowing how to drive/ride. Because they think they already know. When they are nothing but operators without much skill at all.

You make a lot of good points.
But it is still the EGO talking. (ie.,I could have steered my way out of it).
How can 26 different riders ALL be wrong?

    Ok, here we go again

    :deadhorse:

While your points are all valid Greyvf750f, you have forgotten the most important part of the equation.

These are guys that call themselves 1%ers

    To recap;

Approximate amount these guys give a shit about much of anything or anyone................0%

Chances of one of them ever getting near an MSF course....................0%

Amount they care about whether they have a license or not.............0%

Time spent thinking about things like lean angle and counter steer......0%

Number of them that will blame the SUV driver for everything that happened.........100%

Sorry bro, but you just cant save everyone, and I realize that you were trying to widen your focus to include things that the general roadway user needs to improve upon, but look upon this as an isolated case of social Darwinism, or to be more kind, as dying by the sword.
