Speed limits do not apply to me unless there are funny looking cars around.

Because they want you to be impressed by how fast you are able to go and how quickly you can get to a set speed. As in "Dude! I was doing 60 thru that corner and got up to 80 before that first traffic light!"

    not really

otherwise we would see occassional accuracy

what do most riders spend most of their time doing? riding straight, so if you were going to design it off for certain riding, wouldn't it make more sense to make it right when doing what the bike will spend most of its time doing?

You will affect the accuracy however, sometimes, when switching tires, since different tires have differing profiles, and from tire wear. But both are only minor affects, especially the second.

On a bike, if people are passing you, you're a target - just like in an airplane, speed is life. The last thing I want is a supertanker-driving soccer mom yakking on the phone with her girlfriend right on my butt.

Just to be on the safe side, why don't you go the same speed as traffic? You might end up getting it up the a$$ one of these days by a driver not paying enough attention. Keep checkin those mirrors too!

It's very simple. Lead, follow or get the hell out of the way. If you can't at least do the speed limit. Then stay the hell off the road. That's my motto!

Its really simple. The person that flicked you off is a yamaha fz1 rider and is overly jealous that your rideing the best machine that has ever put wheels on the road. Or it could be that your a jackass.

A perusal of church history will show that in fact what you have percieved as the rude " middle finger" is actually an ancient blessing by the first holy father of the Catholic Church founded in Rome in the time of Agustus Caesar. With this blessing you will upon careful examination, see the words in Latin. "Me Transmite Sursum! Caledoni."

When the French threatened the English in the 1400s they promised to cut off the middle finger of all the English archers. The jesture was used to piss of those furious French sodiers. The jesture was also used by American POW soldiers in the Korean war. This was to show how bad the POWs were being treated during the war. The Korean soldiers wanted to show the US press how great our boys were being treated. It, needless to say, backfired.

Seems? Borrow a GPS and see what your actual speed is. As been said here and in numerous other threads, your speedo is reading fast. Personally I ride a little faster that the flow of traffic. On the interstate here that means I'm doing 90 indicated, a hair less than 80 actual.

PS - if you are blocking traffic in the left lane :yousuck:

Thats kinda my point, if i am not driving above the posted speed limit, i am not in the wrong, in fact, the people passing me, are braking the law to do it.

if I am in the wrong, then why are THEY the ones braking the law.

I suck, the pricks that cannot stay off the gas pedal and obey the law are the ones that suck.

    GoForARide,

99.9999999% of folks on the road can be placed in one of two categories:

Morons - these people are in vehicles traveling slower than you.
Maniacs - these people are in vehicles traveling faster than you.

The third category (the remaining 0.0000001%) consists of you.

Strange as it might seem, depending on who you talk to, "you" is also 100% of the population.

Seriously, though: Instead of counting how many folks pass you and how many folks you pass, aim to travel at the speed that permits you to be as far away from the "clump" ahead of you and the "clump" behind you. Occasionally slowing down is usually a more effective technique to put the strategy into effect.

    Best wishes.

    Seriously...borrow a GPS

Make sure you are actually going the speed limit. Bike spedos read up to 10% faster than you are actually going in a straight line. I commute about 20 miles each way, on a very open stretch of freeway, that is not heavily patrolled. I am almost always over the speed limit, but I never stay in the left lane. Once in a while, I still get passed.

Have you never overtaken someone who refuses to vacate the passing lane? Its annoying, and dangerous to pass on the right, because in the back of your mind you are wondering if they see you or if they are finally going to merge back into the slow lane just in time to side-swipe you...
