gel grips

i have a 1987 vfr 700. does anyone have any experience on installing gel grips for this bike? i have the foam grips but they are starting to wear off. what tools do i need and which grips should i get?

If the ones you have aren't glued on you can either use air to blow them off, or cut them off....
The best thing to put grips on with is rubbing alcohol. Soap can make it hard for them to stay put after installed.... it would be easier to remove the bar-ends.....

 

rubbing alcohol....thanks for the tip....i guess the bar ends have some kind of screw that you unbolt. i'm new to riding the this is my 1st bike. i've put about a 1000 miles on it in 1 1/2 months.

 

Final Net aerosol hairspray, it's a lot cleaner and the grips set up in about 5 minutes, couple wraps of safety wire and you're done. It works very well when you have to get the new gel grip over a Symtec heat wrap, on the throttle tube, without distorting it. :biggrin:

i used the hair spray method....worked perfectly. switched up the grips in 5 minutes

 

use the PRO GRIPS, have a pair on now , works great

 

pro grips here as well. Typically remove the bar ends, cut off the old ones, and I (don't flame me here) use brake cleaner as the lube to get it on. Got to do it fast. Melts the rubber enough to bond to the plastic below. Never had any issues with it moving.

 

guys I have a 95' VFR I wanted to get these for my bike :Pro Grip 719 RVGS Open End Gel Grip - Street Bike - Motorcycle Superstore

but noticed that they are 120mm as opposed to the 699's which are 125mm. (Pro Grip 699 Open End Sportbike Gel Grip - Street Bike - Motorcycle Superstore)

will they fit? is the mm's the diameter of the tube?
