I am starting this custom build motorcycle project and it is getting off to a rough start because the motorcycle salvage yard did not give me the cdi boxes to make VF1000F engine run. There are no aftermarket ones available.
And the only used one was on ebay is gone.
Should I just bail on the vf1000f engine and get something else?

    What are your thoughts.
I know you like your Interceptors but what if you needed a CDI box?
    Where could you get one?
HONDA says they discontinued the part.

    Yes I am trying now.
One of the largest salvage yards for motorcycles in Sacramento CA. Say they do not have ANY.
    I am on the list.

i'd seriously consider a re start.

a 5th gen 800cc plant would probably make as much power as the old thou lump.

its also probably lighter and could be stroked for extra cubes if you want.

i imagine its not to hard to sell that engine you've got around here..

I'd part out the one you have and start over with a newer more common power plant unless you can find a complete parts bike somewhere. Use Craig's Helper to search all of Craig's List using this search (minus the quotes) "Honda (VF1000|VF1000F|VF1000R|Interceptor) (Part|Parts)" and see what you come up with. You may just find someone willing to part with their CDI boxes.

    Thanks Jake.
All I need is the engine and COMPLETE wiring harness.
I have the wiring harness just need the two cdi boxes.
I can wire the lights etc.,just need the ignition and charging system stuff.
I have everything except the CDI boxes.

I may have one in the garage, I'll check tonight.

The F motor was imported only one year though, the R motor is more common and may be easier to get parts for, plus it's got the gear driven cams.

So if you do have one- it should have either a plug with 5 wires OR 7 wires.

And don't forget to get some tire irons. You're going to need them.

OK I found out the CDI box I have is for the VF1000R.

It has two plugs on it and they both have 4 wires.

At least I now know what it is.

You didn't send this bike to a guy in Elk Grove or south Sac did you? Just wondering, the F I had a year or so ago I got in boxes, original bike had a blown motor, no title, etc. How many F's are around this area in boxes with blown motors??

Thanks for the photo. I just have the engine and harness for the VF1000F.
I bought it from a motorcycle salvage yard in Ohio.
It turns out that the CDI box I got with the engine is for a VF1000R.
So I will not need it.
I need the two boxes for the vf1000f that you show in the photo.
