If loved a bit the DRZ400 can be the bike of all needs.A bit heavy but if you grew up on older bike you can really understand the gains from an XT 350 or XR 400. The little button that starts it after a looooooooong day is well worth the few pounds it stacks on.My second DRZ but my ......shit I lost count of my off road bikes, and by far my favorite and the most fun of all bikes I have owned.A plate is a must, nothing better than sliding of a highway and going rooting around willy nilly where you want.Faster....lighter....but no more versatile for on off road.Our favorite ride is from Sugar Pine north of French Meadows (highway for 26 miles and abot 16 on fire roads) to Hell Hole and back down game trails or if frisky we will fuck with the sport bikes on Mosquito Ridge back to loop five off Forest Hill Road and collapse at truck.About 8-10 hours and little tanks wont fly, and a plate is a must....plus a spine.....well...a sack will help to.:biggrin:

Toe getting mouthy

I dont think I have been mouthy before but I will on this subject,no lose deal for me....just fun....won this bet toooooo many times...Pm me and lets go for a ride.:biggrin:

 

I have a plated WR400. A local dealer was importing them from Canadia, so you could slip them through the DMV. This was back in 1999. They are a lot more aware now-a-days (at least here in Calif) and it is harder to get a plate for a WR, CRX, etc. They seem to be pretty common on craig's list though.

I have it rigged so the the headlight assembly has all the stuff (turn signals, horn, etc.) The rear fender has the tail light, plate, turn sigals, etc. A single connector for each, so it is easy to change over to full moto mode.

I have raced this bike on the weekend and ridden it to work during the week. It is the ultimate for dodging cagers around town. Its pretty hard to keep the front wheel down though (which gets the attention of the LEOs).... Way too much fun.

Not so much on the freeway. It will go 100mph with the proper gearing, but it's screaming. The wheels are not very round any more and it is so light that you get blown all over the place.

 

That's one grueling loop you do there Toe. Trail five at Forest Hill is usually enough to kick my ass for a day, can't imagine the rest of that.
