The front end swap would be your second picture plus wheel. You have to do all of it since your triples won't fit the new (tubes). The caliper bracket is what holds your brake unit to the bike and keeps it in place so it can grab the brake rotor correctly.

You also have to get your stem pressed out of the old triple and placed in the new one by a machinist. The stem is what goes through the frame and connects both triples.

Yes, you will want something similar to the second picture. Make sure that it also includes the calipers, wheel, and fender too. It's really a pretty easy way to go. You should check out the US eBay site, there are tons of parts on there and most sellers will ship overseas. If not, I'd be happy to have the parts sent here and I can forward them on to you.

I bought an cbr600f2 rear wheel last week and i found one front end without a wheel so i didint buy it yet because i'm still hoping to find the whole set at once( including wheel and brake parts too). Here in finland the fall hasent started yet so the project is still on hold because i start the job when it's too cold and too wet to dry:smile:

If you found the forks get them because you can find the wheels much easier. You will probably not find everything together on ebay since you tend to get more in parts.

i just tuned in to this thread...got a few answers and a few questions. i'm in the process of doing F2 front and rear end swap (still, been a long time but..) look for 94 F2 forks. 91-93 are damping rod technology versus 94 which is cartridge technology... i am not a suspension expert but i read somewhere damping rod is OLD and BAD, cartridge is NEW and GOOD. so if you DO get 91-93 which could be cheaper and obviously easier to find, you SHOULD get Gold Valve Emulators from racetech which "mimics" cartridge technology and makes 91-93 more adjustable. i did manage to print the steps for both front and back convertions from hondavfr.org off before they got removed, so i will scan those post them...as far as back goes...you will need adjustable shock to set up ride height i.e. FOX TWIN CLICKER or something like that...OR See Jaime D for a shock alternative. also Jaime D for the rear spacers....Now we come to the question portions.

@soikka - what type of gauges are those on your vfr...they look digital, any info?

@Jaime D - exactly how much do you remove from the rear caliper brackets so they would work with F2 caliper...

Fatso. I know I'm not Jamie but we just did this to my bike and we went with the f2 brake bracket. It needed a 8 to 9mm spacer instead of the (Jamie can correct me) 5mm, I think comes in Jamie set. This meant we didn't have to cut and weld the brake bracket and we only had to drill and tap the bracket to put the brake arm on, didn't even need to bend it.

Okay i just mearsured the spacers i had..the right side came up (12.7)13mm, the left closet to the rim (15.875) 16mm and the one outside the brackets is 8mm. and the VFR's brackets works dead on. i gotta get a cbr f2 rear bracket to see if it will fit.

Here are the steps for F2 Front
VFR TO CBR F2 Front Conversion

    Front
    1) Put VFR steering stem in CBR Lower triple
    2) Tack Weld for added security(recommended)
3)Machine steering stops on CBr lowers to match those of VFR..OR..
    (a) Tap and Thread for 6mm bolt
    4) Tap out bearing races
    5) Replace Bearing Races

Those are the major points of the front end conversion.

@ Tex are you using the axle from VFR or CBR on your rear? maybe that is why there is a difference in spacers.

I'm using the axle from the vfr. But that shouldn't make a difference since your talking about what goes in between the stock vfr swingarm. That is the measureable distance.

We really need hondavfr.org back up and running. It would answer all of these questions. Unfortunately I do not know the answers!

I have all that stuff saved on my hard drive at home. I'll try to remember to post it up tonight.

Also, once I get my 900RR rear conversion done on my 86, I'll post that up too.

All info of the wheel conversion would be helpful? and i found info of an old cbr1000f (the earliest model i guess) that the front end of this bike fits too? and i really appreciate all of the info that i have got here! but now i have to tell you that i dont build ANYTHING after next year!!!! i drove a motorcycle accident with my vfr and spent a week at the hospital:frown: i broke my neck and got several road rashes all over my body... now i have to use "halo vest":frown: and it's quite terrible... but they told me that i'm going to be fine and maybe back to normal in a few months... maybe i didnt have enough experience of driving because my rear brake jammed(too much rear brake use) in a tight corner and then the bike rolled over etc... i wasn't speeding and the bike is in a quite good shape... lesson learned!

I contacted the original owner of HondaVFR.org and he put it back up in a temporary location. It can be found here: The 1986-7 VFR700F Page

Lots of good 86-87 info, check it out! I'm going to post this in a few places just to make sure the 86-87 folks see it.
