Let me guess, the person who said that Go was a lifetime member of ABATE:rolleyes:

Had one of those jokers in the ERC class we coached last Saturday. When helmets came up he tried to start his ignorance, he was properly shut down.

At the end of the day the other Coach (my buddy Jeff) was laughing at how I handled his ignorant ass.

    click on link below

Omega Neck Brace - Chaparral Motorsports

this is the omega neck brace, they are used for motocross right now but they do work for street riding as well.
The AMA guys still are hesitant to wear these but you will prob see them more in road racing in the near future.

Here is a pretty affordable way to greatly reduce the chance of neck injury: Leatt Brace - webBikeWorld
$300-$400 doesn't seem too bad in a world of $600-$800 helmets and $300 gloves

I think people should ride all the time without helmets if they want, so when they die I won't have to share the road with those idiots. See also the shorts/t-shirt/tank top crowd.

    Dumbasses.

i remember hearing all of the idiot anti-helmet crap back when i started riding street (1969). it was bovine excrement then, and it's bovine excrement now. then again, if your head has no value to you, don't spend any money to protect it. darwin will take care of the situation eventually.

I don't even get the no helmet thing from a practical standpoint, I mean I'll always wear a full face because I have heard how hard a bug at 60mph hits the visor, and I really don't want it to be my cheek instead. it'd feel like getting shot I think. To hell with that.

Saw a dumbass on a Harley last weekend cruisin on a winding road in a red baseball cap. Last I checked Washington State has a mandatory helmet law but clearly this dude didn't give a damn.

I was just in Chicago last week myself, mostly downtown. Most bikes were beyond beaten up, and ony one or two had any sort of lid on. I was quite shocked.

Did you guys also know that seatbelts kill people. Well, at least that is what some idiot told me once. He said that seatbelts trap people in cars and that he wanted to be able to be thrown clear from any danger LOL!

    Regards,
    Rollin

this is one of those old reasons, old wives tales, why not to wear a helmet. Long ago proven not to be true, but held onto by people who want to have a reason for doing something that makes no logical sense.

In my experience it is almost impossible to have a reasonable discussion with someone about helmets when they start saying just plain stupid stuff like that.

IMO people who don't wear helmets are like felons: they do it because they don't seriously consider the consequences.

All I can say is that most every rider that I know that has gone down hard has been wearing a full face helmet and I would say 80% of them would be missing their jaw without it... Do whatever suits you but the risk is too great for me.

I'll never forget the sound of my helmet hitting the pavement when I crashed. These people must be nuts!!!
Whip-lash my ass. If you're dumb enough to ride without a lid - stick to cars and stay to the right!!!!

I have hit my head head hard enough with helmet to be knocked out and serious concussion.Would not have survived to be sure without. I will take a chance on neck injury.Funny part is I fell off a ledge while doing a tough turn trail riding and landed on some rocks below.

My Brother In Law was in surgery much of today following a collision with a car in downtown Seattle yesterday. I really hate seeing any rider go down regardless of the circumstances and, of course, wish him a speedy recovery. Objectively though, I have to say that he is one of those HD riding ABATE lifestylers and I think his attitude and approach to riding was a major contributing factor. The only gear he had on was a helmet and only because "The Man" requires it here. His stupid skid lid was, thankfully, attached to his broken down Harley at home so he was "forced" to wear the full face when he climbed on his Goldwing backup bike in Jeans, a tee shirt, workboots and no gloves even. I love this guy but jeez what a dumbass! He T-boned a car at 35mph by misreading a traffic light. Given his level of gear, his head is obviously the only part of his body undamaged and I really wonder if he'll ever ride again. I believe in the notion of to each his own but can't subscribe to the theory when measured against the cost of "freedom". I know I'm ranting but I'm pissed. 35 years of riding experience and the best this guy can do is to approach his ride with a commuter mindset and never the thought that today's ride could be his last...I imagine vision impairment is the byproduct of his head location.
