    Hi,

I have a 2002 VFR800 (not ABS) CA edition with ~11K miles on it. I took the bike in for the Wiring Harness Recall issued in 2008, but now I am experiencing a problem where the battery (pretty new battery, purchased earlier in the year) will not charge while riding. (Note: the battery holds a charge just fine on my home charger.) This came up - pretty embarassingly - when I was showing the bike to a guy and she would not start after I had just ridden ~15 miles to work.

I have not had a chance to get my multimeter out yet to check the charging voltage and circuitry. However, the gent to whom I was showing the bike mentioned something about a "Charging System Recall" for 6th generation VFRs. Does anyone have more information about this or similar experiences?

    Thanx!

Yes it could also be the stator but I'd lean towards the R/R since Honda's have been prone to R/R failures. Have you tested the output using a multimeter?

I have a 2002 and I am having the same problem. This only happened yesterday on my way from reno to san francisco in 95+ degrees temps. Bike was running around 220 most of the way so I'm sure the fan was running and I had my high beams on for visibility. After a quick stop to check my map the bike wouldn't crank over. After a charge from a local business owner I made it the last 150 miles home. I used my multi-meter and observed the following voltages at the battery terminals. Bike off 12.5V , Idle 12.8V 2500rpm 13.5V 5000RPM 13.9V 5000RPM with high beam 13.4V 5000rpm with high beams and radiator fan on 12.8V. Does this sound like a R/R malfunction to those with experience?

After seeing all these R/R incidents i think im going to install a Voltmeter on the dash so i can keep an eye on the charging system.
