If you're looking for some good roads in the vicinity, I can help a little. The roads shown on that site with overlays on top of google maps has about 65-80% of the good roads I know about.
There are a few more which I like, but they tend to be tighter, unmarked and rural-residential. No roads like Skyline Dr exist with a fast speed limit and those style sweepers. At least that I've seen. For that, you might as well go over to VIR. (which I'd love to do) I've learned that you can't be a road snob living around NoVA. This ain't no California.

AHHHHKKK! I had forgotten what it was like to sit in traffic on a motorbike! Its almost worth moving back to Cali for... but not quite. I sure do miss the riding though, and the Sierras, and... well thats about it really.

I thought VIR was an oval. Do they have a road course somewhere?

I just had to scrape the bowels of my computer's internet history to come up with this link for you. I hope you enjoy it more than I did trying to find it.

    And VIR is no oval!

Took a class at the VIR in the fall ... nice track with elevation changes, a long straight away, great turns, not real easy to pass on, would say its a technical track

I think you're thinking of RIR in Richmond, which is where the idiots drive around in circles...barring any foul weather of course.

VIR has 4 track configurations, North, South, Patriot, and Full. All consist of left AND right turns with the Patriot course being the shortest. I've only run the South course but I think it is one of the better tracks for working on many skills and techniques, while still being easy enough and somewhat short.

Looks like I'll be heading to Roebling, GA which is just outside Savannah for a trackday. The truck is full but anyone else is welcome to come down and ride or hang out.

I remember reading about a track that was being developed east of Richmond last year. It was supposed to have a road course and a kart track. Did anything ever develop there? I havent even been able to locate a reference through internet searching again.

I live Short Pump (Richmond's far West End) right next Centerville. Been there 17 years. It's changing so fast I think if I blink too long I won't recognize it.

If anyone nearby does a ride drop me a note. I grew up in Charlottesville so a ride to the Parkway would be great.

Lots of Speed traps out Labor Day. I road two very local to me roads for a short ride today and encountered three.

    1. One on Purcell road. About mid point on the road.

    2. Two on Joplin road. 1 smack in the middle of the 15MPH switchback and a another one 2 mile further down the road. With evidence that there may have been as many as 3 at one time today on that road.

This cut my ride very short 34 miles. At about 40MPH.

That sucks! My ride was even shorter yesterday. My round trip might have been a mile. Got all geared up to head out west for a couple hours before a family bbq at my house. Ran down to the gas station to put air in the tire and my valve stem came half off!! I was able to twist it back down to hold some air and then slowly road the bike back to my garage. Changed clothes and started work on the bike. Took me an hour to get that f-ing D&D exhaust off my bike. The pipe between the muffler and the collector just didnt want to come off! I was gonna put the set up on ebay to see what I could get for it but I really did a number on that pipe. Probably just throw the muffler on there and see if I can get something for it. My new exhaust should be here on Thursday. Took both the front wheel and rear wheel off. Gonna run them by the shop and get the front checked for balance and the rear to replace the stem. This season has been crap for me!!

Labor Day... yeah, they were out heavy doing traffic stops. We ran thru 2 license checks Monday. One on Robious Rd. in Richmond. Fortunately they were just getting set up, so we didn't have to stop.

The second one was out near Cumberland. One of my friend's inspection had just expired, but they let him go anyway. Nice!

I got nailed at 64mph by the one on Joplin at Liming Ln. I had just passed an SUV in the passing zone right before it. Was on the way back to Loudoun from Lake Gaston. Wish it would've been raining like it had been all the way from southern VA, then they wouldn't have been there.
