I'm a huge dog lover myself and hate what Vick did but can't the training and domesticating of an animal be seen as cruel as well? Who's to say that dogs weren't better off without our interference? We look at other animals differently only because we were not able to train them as sucessfully. People's inability to train other animals doesn't mean the animal is less intellegent or evolved. We put more value on animals we can train because we can maninulate them to do our will. We fear animals that don't have the will or ability to change their inbred behavior. You can train a tiger but when he gets tired of you then you're lunch. Just ask Sigfred... This doesn't excuse what Vick did; he paid for his discresion.

All is forgiven if you have a winning season........and if the Eagles win the Super Bowl they'll be talking about the wonderful redemption story that is Michael Vick..... however, if they dont do well Vick will be forgotten and shuffled off to another team, etc, etc, etc. bla bla bla.

My money is on Vick having another snafu before the season is over, the man does not display intelligence commensurate with his athletic talent, too bad really.

I am a pro football fan. I like college football. Its a dichotomy that my enjoyment of this form of entertainment does not come without the realization that it is exploitive of young people and the fact that the money involved in it corrupts it at every level. Thats just the way it is. On the pro level, where the athlete actually has a bit of say in where the money goes, at least there is some parity between owners and players, until recently the poor bastards that retired from it were treated like trash. Whatever your feelings on this particular game, it does not appear that it is on the decline. Whether the Vick incident added to all the others makes the least dent in NFL popularity is doubtful. We like watching football. I personally have never felt that a particular collection of players represents me or the area in which I may be living, I like watching good football.

Im gonna go lay down now and recover from being so serious .

By the way Im a Raider fan, always have been , dont live anywhere near them, although I have once. Part of their appeal is their image as a group of misfits and castoffs. I have no discernable reason for liking them and it is as difficult to explain as it is to explain why I ride a motorcycle.

Let him play and when he loses his first game (dogfight) then the Eagles should choke/shoot/electrocute/drown his ass and throw him in a dumpster.

Finally someone with a brain! He killed a few dogs....big deal. The pounds and puppy mills will make more, they are like Doritos. Its pretty sad when our culture puts animals above humans. Its not like he killed the last 4 dogs on the planet! Sometimes when dogs fight they die. I hope Vick throws 40 TD's this year and I even hope he beats the Giants! Come on guys time to get a grip. I have friends in Pa that cant wait for hunting season to start just to go and kill something for no reason except to use an expensive rifle that is collecting dust. Vick should have never done a minute in prison, how his lawyer allowed this to happen is unbelievable.

Ok lets something a little straight. Vick went to jail for RICO and although what he did was thug - like, dog fighting was not the major charge. IMO he is like Michael Bolton (no talent ass clown). BTW in his 60 Minutes interveiw he staited that he "cried", when the cell door closed and it finally weighed on him the magnatude of what he has done. I dont know why he would say that, like thats going to forgive him for what he has done. I do beleive he deserves a second chance but, again, he wasnt that good of a QB. Make him a QB coach or running back coach. Also he should wear his prison numbers on his jersey so that he wont forget and have to "cry", again. Any monies made off that jersey should be donated. (This rule should be applied to all charged criminals in pro sports) OK off my :soapbox:

On a lighter note. How bout Farve coming out of retirement (again) and going to the Vikings?

Wow, you serious? You're either (A) completely ignorant to the facts of the Vick case or (B) just as mentally out-of-whack as Vick and get a boner torturing other living creatures.

Talk about sugar coating his actions. There's no comparison to be made versus someone who is legally hunting and it's scary to think there are people out there who believe he didn't do a single thing wrong.

This is coming from the Granola bar state that voted in Arnold and is now almost bankrupt :crazy:. So he killed a few dogs, so what. They were his property and he should be allowed to do whatever he wishes with them.

Way-y-y-y-y off topic: I've been a Raiders fan from way-y-y-y back, and never lived anywhere close to Oakland. I remember old man George Blanda's last minute heroics, "the assassin" Jack Tatum, John Madden's theatrics, and much more. There's just something about that team. The bad boy mystique, I guess.

all these california hater quotes get a little tiresome. here's a link to wikipedia. give it a read. there is some interesting data out there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_California

I think when you have a huge population with a diversified demographic, it is natural that there will be lot of different extremes. But how granola and california have anything to do with a guys opinion about a football player and killing dogs, well, that's a stretch I'm having difficulty making. maybe I need more yoga classes. since I live in california, there should be one right down the street, eh?

Regardless of whether or not you like dogs, what Michael Vick did was not okay. However, you can't hold it against him the rest of his life. He paid his debt to society and deserves another chance. Imagine if nobody ever gave us a second chance for every mistake we've made. Where would we be?

A little off topic, but a lot of states are in dire straits. They just don't get the attention California does because it's the most populous and popular state in our country.

Now for something really off topic.... GO STEELERS!!!

Well I am a native New Yorker and avid football fan. I agree with the fact that so he killed some dogs (or did he finance the opreation) - regardless he owned the dogs - what he did was shameful and wrong but he did not kill any person - you guys are would treat a child molester better than this which makes it ridiculous. If you do not like the guy then go on and dislike the guy. I do not think playing professional sports is a privilige because it is a business. The sports business does not care about anything except profits and winning. If a person is a piece of crap that is only an opinion and opinions are like aholes they all stink. Yeah I think he is a jerk but I thought that before he went to jail for killing (or just financing) dogs. There are people who do worse things and some supposed dog lovers are abusers too - they beat and imprison dogs. If you really like dogs so much why to you make them a prisoner and the so called dog lovers beat on dogs also. Some of you guys are no different than Vick. I have been to dog fights and plan to go to more. Too bad to anyone who does not like that because there are things people do I do not like but so what. Fat ass Ted Kennedy raped and killed a woman and he is still in office - now that is a piece of crap.

I know Cal is a wonderful state but the punishment should fit the crime. Just because a few dogs died in the process of fighting does not mean a person should go to jail. Dont pounds and kennels put dogs to sleep when they arent sold to people and to help curb the population of all the unwanted dogs. I for one never owned or will ever own a dog and If I were the judge I would just make Vic pay like a million dollars to help unwanted dogs, what good came out of him going to jail....nothing. Mike if you are reading this I hope you have at least 6 good years in you to make your mark on the NFL. I bet he is still the fastest Q-back on his feet in the NFL and I hear he's got a brother who is even faster! I used that term to describe how soft some parts of the country are on crime and how stupid they are in other respects. Perhaps in Cal you might get the chair for killing a dolphin and 20 years for killing a person? Doesnt seem right. Ok I will get off the soap box now.

    I hear ya Reg.

Never fails, soon as we get a topic the LEAST bit controversial on here it always degenerates into some kind of either regional or politcal rant.

By the way, I live in a redneck state, chew tobacco, smoke cigars, drink wine and whiskey, work out and do yoga, eat granola and then bacon, ride a sportbike sometimes without ATGATT, think Arnold as governor is hilarious, wont vote the party ticket, wonder daily at the ignorance all around, refuse to confuse the abiltity to change one's mind when faced with new facts with weakness of character, and dont give two shits if Michael Vick becomes pope... (threw a little religion in there just for good measure).....

As far as regional differences go, I have noticed that if you live in the South and are weird but reasonably intelligent, youre a lovable rake eccentric as long as you continue to speak with your Southron drawl y'all.and you can pretty much get away with shit but theyre keeping an eye on you....out West you get called a flake unless youre really really bright, then youre a frickin genius and attract a following. Either way, being different aint always that easy.

We, and I am including myself here, are certainly a bunch of wackjobs at VFRW, and I wouldnt have it any other way.

PS to Knife......yeah that era was what got me started as a Raider fan, knowing that, how can I root for the Tennessee Titans or the Colts? Cant, they arent weird enough heeheeeheeeheee.

Must be being blessed with talent becomes the wallpaper of your life or something and you just dont know how good you could have it.

Only in America is this such a big deal come on people get over it, do I think he was wrong in every way YES but he payed his debt, all you PETA idiots are hypocrites if you saw some kid getting his ass kicked outside wall-mart by his white trash parents or N word parents you wouldn't do crap but the second some animal is getting abused you want the person doing put to death. Yeah your right he is remorseful because he got caught but name somebody ANYBODY who has come out without being caught and being remorseful to the public how many of you have cheated on a girl-boyfriend-wife-husband. Did you come out and say sorry to them without being caught. Or better yet how many of you have hit some critter with your car did you go kill yourself cause you killed an innocent creature NO. And just how many of you are pro-choice but that is different huh. Also how many of you celebrated Michel Jackson's life THAT MAN WAS A GOD DAMN PEDOPHILE FOR CHRIST SAKES BUT IT'S OK CAUSE HE COULD SING RIGHT JACKASS'S. JUST SHUT UP THE MAN SEEMS REMORSEFUL IF HE ISN'T THEN HE DOESN'T DESERVE A SECOND CHANCE BEING CAUGHT OR NOT BEING CAUGHT SHOULD MEAN JACK. Now I'm just waiting for you anti-gun hippies to say Plex Burris should be put to death for carrying a gun. He should go to prison for breaking the laws he broke which he is and then he is let out it should be done with. Just like Vick that's why we live in this country if you don't like the laws and punishments for them talk to your congressmen not just post on here how people suck. I myself am perfectly happy with the sentence both men received and after they pay there debt to society as the laws WE have then it is done and over with. Now I know typing this means jack just like all your posts haven't changed my mind and this will not change yours but just listening to you people bitch is just getting annoying if you don't like the man don't watch ESPN or don't watch the Eagles when murderers are released from prison do you go picket there house no but your going to picket this guy OK MAKES PERFECT SENSE I THINK I'M GOING TO START PROTESTING PETA PEOPLE'S HOUSES FOR HUMAN MISTREATMENT.

I know this is a rant and prob doesn't flow very well but it just infuriates me listening to people talk when they have bitch because a guy or girl is a celeb and they give a rats ass bout joe shmoe down the street

I just found this on sportsillustrated.com:

Vick was welcomed warmly in Philly. Vick received a standing ovation from the Lincoln Field crowd when he came in on the second play of the Eagles' first offensive series. The cheering continued throughout the night.

Evidently I'm not the only one that thinks he deserves another chance.
