So I've had my rwb for a little over a month and it makes some weird noises. I tried to record them but the camera didn't pick it up. Basically there is always a ticking sound which I assume are valves but then there is another sound. I thought it was the flapper valve so I got rid of the door, removed the plunger and covered up the hose. It still makes the noise. Could it be the pair valves? Hopefully at some point I can meet up with one of you and have you take a listen. I might be going to the dealer tomorrow to pick up an exhaust gasket for my KLR...of course it never makes the sound when I need it to. It seems to happen when the engine is hot and in gear.

I've gone back to the dealer once but when I had the mechanic come out, the bike had cooled down enough that it wasn't making it anymore. It seems to do it the most after I ride it, not just from it sitting there. So basically they just said, if it gets worse bring it back in for a service. I mean its under warranty so i guess I shouldn't worry too much. I hope removing the flapper isn't going to be a huge deal. I guess if they wont fix it because of that I can just put the flapper back in and go to a different dealer.

The PAIR solenoid does make a "clonk" noise as it operates, and it is attached to the back of the airbox.
Unplug the connector and see if it stops.

Hmm well I guess that is my next move. Guess I will order the pair blockoffs. First I will try just disconnecting it though and plugging it with something...not sure what since its a pretty large hose.

Edit: I ordered the pair block offs from TPO today. is there a good pictorial of exactly what needs to be blocked off or removed?

Use some earplugs, and forget about it. Ride the bike and enjoy it.

I did the pair blockoffs today and it still makes the noise. Sounds like it is coming from the back right cylinder or thereabouts. I'm angry

Well I dropped her off at the dealer today. The mechanic wasnt sure what the noise was but said he will get the tank off and try to figure out where its coming from and will likely be calling Honda to get guidance on it. Its gotten pretty loud to where I can now hear it with earplugs in. They've got 12 days to get it fixed before I leave to go back home.

I know mine made a ticking noise for the first while that I had it, I was concerned as well. But after a few thousand miles it stopped. I'm guissing it was just the valves breaking in.

I called to check up on the bike today. The mechanic said he took off the tank and fairings to pinpoint the sound and it is coming from the front valve cover. So he has called Honda a few times with no answer waiting to get some guidance before he tears into it. Not really liking the fact that at 2700 miles I am already having issues. Plus I have been hearing the noise for a few weeks so I hope no damage was done....guess that is what the warranty is for. I did take the bike in immediately when I heard it but it stopped making it when I got there.

On most bikes with fuel injection, the injectors make a ticking sound when the bike is idling. It could be them. I don't think I'd worry about it too much. I believe mine do it. I'll have to pay more attention to it. The bike runs so quietly, that much of the noises are more evident. I notice mine makes a lot of gearbox noise, at lower rpms's. Is this normal? I imagine it is. At 50 or above, they seem to go away.

    Cheers
    John.

Yea my issue is not with the ticking which is likely the valves, mine is with the loud sound it is making. When I get the pair valves back in(I lost a reed), I will take it back to a different dealer. I am fairly certain it is a cam chain tensioner.

So that's what that noise was... i started to hear it once i put on the K&N filter but i never heard it with the stock filter....i just figured it was the flapper pluger noise but when i blocked it off it was still making that clonk noise.
