Hey, my name is Miles. I live near Chicago, Illinois. Just turned 18 and am hoping to purchase a 1985 VF500 F within the next week or two. Glad to meet you all.

Welcome to the boards Miles!! Is there any particular reason why you choose the VF500? The reason I ask is because parts for these bikes are pretty hard to come by and you'll probably be doing alot of work on the bike unless it is in very good condition and has been properly maintained by it's previous owner(s). I hope you are getting a good deal on it because many people end up putting more money into these older bikes than they are worth. How mechanically inclined are you and do you have experience working on your own bikes? Can you provide us with some more of the bike's history?

The good news is that there are lots of helpful people on these boards that can help you with any issues that may arise with your new toy.

    Regards,
    Rollin

At first there wasn't a bike I was truly searching for, I was just looking for a somewhat cheaper used bike to get started with. Now it's more of carrying on the tradition my dad set, since he is the one that got me into bikes all those years ago. He had a VF500 new off the line was back in '85, so I thought it would be fitting to get one as well.

I am very mechanically inclined as long as I can find a source that tells me what I need and what goes where, I can do the rest, and I learn very very fast. I am actually glad that you say parts are hard to come by for these bikes because that will make owning and maintaining it all that much more of an adventure.

And I'm glad to hear you are all very helpful, I'm sure I will need it in the coming months.

......advenure? enough said huh, no but really the 500's are a good bike mine was all stock upon purchase but has transfromed into a corner carver i roughly have about 4600 bucks sunk into mine and soon to be more i would recommend a parts bike for these little hard to find bolts connectors etc..with the right mods you can make these little bikes comes to life just a question of how far are you willing to go (how much money are you wanting to spend) for what i have in mine i could have bought a very nice newer bike but i love to tinker and the look on guys face's when they see you dragging peg feelers is priceless! good luck with her
