I wish this bike came with a slipper clutch!! As much as this bike costs new they could have put a slipper clutch in it! I love to trail brake and I will down shift into the corners and sometimes I end up sliding the rear tire due to the downshift. It really need a slipper clutch for my style of riding.

Did I mention my rear tire is toast at 1500 miles! big surprise huh.

You need to look up throttle blip in the realm of mototrcycling young padawan. If you watch pre-2000's races you will hear the riders blipping the throttle during each downshift to match engine RPM's with rear wheel speed to keep the rear from doing what you describe. now go forth and practice.

On a side note, if you are needing to down shift that far and that fast, you are going too fast for the street. And your definitely not being smooth enough. you should be in the the right gear before you start to trail brake otherwise your flirting with disaster, not leaving enough cushion should anything go wrong. Go do a track day, and you will hooked for life- you will find out you haven't been enjoying your spirited rides as much as you think on the street.

I do blip. However I changed the gearing -1/+1 and that 1st gear downshift is really low and sometime I drag a little also 2nd is really low as well. After shifting into te correct gear I then use trail braking to correct for the corner as I need to inorder to set up for entry.

Also the modern track bikes do have slipper clutches for just such a reason. and As far as I know most new sport bike do as well??? So honda should have put one on this bike for the price premium we paid.

BTW I would LOVE a track day!!!! but none near me!!...of course I don't ride like that everywhere but if you will notice my location......maybe you will understand where I'm coming from.

I like it because it is comfortable. If I wanted an all out race bike thats what I would have bought. I geting too old for those type of bikes everyday. However I think this thing could benfit from a slipper clutch.

Just because you don't think she will scream like a race bike doesn't mean she can't or shouldn't try:thumbsup:
I'm not trying to be a racer however I do enjoy a spirted ride from time to time and my riding style would benifit form a slipper style setup and I think honda should have put one one here from the factory.

ok well:cool: maybe barnett or ebc can help you find what you need and a hinson clutch basket, i was just stating as much as we love our viffers they are more street riding comfort and long rides(touring) not really track worthy due to weight and a somewhat underpowered engine...if the vfr lost 50lbs and gained 30 hp track time.................

Cuz Honda expected riders to carefully coordinate clutch and throttle operation and not to rush downshifts......?

no 180 is fine as long as the rim fits..which it does. As far as the suspension goes I find myself bottoming out the headers in really tight turns so I would say yes for my weight and riding style the rear suspension is to soft.

The premium price has not much to do with it. You can spend over $100k on a new Corvette and you don't get a spare tire and jack. Or spend the same money on a luxury sedan and you don't even get a clutch.

Every time I ride the VFR I love how well the clutch works and how easy to is to match RPM when down shifting. I'm also -1/+1 on the sprockets, but I don't ride that hard. The 2-1 shift is by far the worst, but I just slip it manually if I know it's going to be harsh.

I just recently made an effort to form a habit/skill of blipping the throttle, and while I don't ride super aggro anywhere, I'm unafraid of giving it the beans at the proper time, and I have never felt the need for a slipper on this bike myself. Seems like you want your shifting to be over with prior to the corner...

Yes I want my down shifting over with before the corner. I don't mind upshifting in the corner but not down shifting if I can help it.

    Slow in.......fast out ---->

everything is maxed out so stiffer spring are prob. in the future for me. Does anyone make progressive springs which are stiffer than the stock once compressed. I need stiffer springs but I don't want the hard ride all the time.

I even caught my lic. plate with the rear tire  and bent the crap out of it. I do have the fend. elim. but it shouldn't be compressing things down that far I don't think. I love the bike but like anything I'm going to have to tweak it to make it MINE!

so far the to do/ want list:
    sargent seat-----------------------check
    gear reduction---------------------check
    speedo healer---------------------check
    custom rebaffled gutted exhaust---check
    vista cruise------------------------check
    mirror extenders-------------------check
    fender elim.------------------------check
    white wheels----------------------CHECK!!
    PC-V w/auto tune-----------------??
    springs rear/front----------------- ??
    Slipper clutch----------------------??
    heli bars---------------------------??
toro charger-----------------------??(maybe) I want but I don't know if I can talk the other half into it like I did for my car.
