Yes it's possible even with the linked braking systems on the newer generations but I wouldn't recommend it. The VFR is a heavy beast and is very expensive to fix if dropped. If you are interested in learning to do stoppies I think you should pick a different bike dude. I think you'll find that most VFR owners will frown on the idea of wheelies, stoppies, burnouts, etc. In the end it's your bike and your decision. If you do decide to do any stunts on your bike please try to keep in mind that your actions in public reflect on all of us so please don't make us look bad. I've done an occasional wheelie every now and again but I have always limited it to private lots or isolated country roads with little or no traffic.

    Regards,
    Rollin

iv attempted stoppies a couple times, locked the front wheel, that was it. no stoppie.

i may be able to do it if i can get my zx9r working.

burnouts iv only been able to accomplish on gravel. who can afford the rubber anyway.

as for wheelies and the like, i cannot say i do them real often, but i do it enough. base line is that i try to do it safely in safe situations. meaning not driving through down town on one wheel. sota speak.

Don't horse around, kids, just ride safely and normally. Wheelies and stoppies are irresponsible, dangerous, risky, foolish stunts for show-offs and sooner or later will cause harm to the bike, to you, or to other people's property.

Otherwise you'll be on here loolking for crash-replacement parts.....after you get out of the hospital.

Wise up, Mike, b4 your fat ass gets dumped on the pavement !

Well, normally I agree that horsing around is dumb. But part of me thinks I don't really know how to stop my bike unless I can comfortably do (or barely not do) a stoppie. So I wish I could answer this question, but I've never done one.

Nick Lenatsh's excellent book "Sportbike Riding Techniques" emphasizes the importance of being able to consistently brake smoothly up to the point of wheel lockup; knowing what your brakes can (and can't) do and what you are capable of doing with them is absolutely critical in controlling your bike.

If you practice your full-on braking diligently and get to the point where you can stoppie, great; but the stoppie isn't the main point, it's getting so good with your brakes that you can stoppie if you choose. Ride safe but have fun.

    Joe

PS, If you haven't read his book I highly recommend it. I read it over and over again as a weekly refresher.

I saw this topic and underneath it was a seperate topic titled bent fork. I thought it pretty appropriate. I only say this because the VFR is not a bike to try this on.

As for the rest of you- if anyone like to stoppie, wheelie, burn rubber, etc- Let them!!!! None of the responses so far have encouraged anyone to find a private place to to engage in such activities. For instance, when I rode with guys that were "stunters", we went to a crop dusting airstrip and had fun. Cops came by to shake our hands for keeping it off the streets.
assuming someone won't be responsible merely for perfoming an "undesired" action will only result in them fullfilling your prophecies- encouraging someone to aspire while being smart about it will get you the desired out come, people being smart about thier actions.

Support peoples ambitions in a positve and controlled setting works- look at how much track days have exploded.

yes nothing cooler then the gravel burnout:thumbsup::thumbsup:eek:k you wanna stoppie follow my instructions.....get up to about 30mph, grip tank with inner thighs, put in nuetral, apply front brake very hard but smoothly, push down on handle bars compressing your springs, then when you feel the rear wheel lift off ground hit your rear brake this will raise the rear end....continue with the momentum until you fell the rear tire is up high enuff for your taste,:biggrin: when to high let off front brake, also the goofs on tv doing this use stablizers to keep the front wheel from turning.. good luck..please post pics I would really love to see them next weekend when i have an iced down 12 pack...thankyou and remember always ride in shorts, no shirt ,flipflops and never ever wear a helmet, those are for squids......:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

The very latest in stoppies is the "Flip Stoppie." A real attention getter!

This takes a set of hard bags half filled with mercury. Some dudes are using OO shot with good results.

Get rolling to about 60 in second. Jam on the front brake. If done right the bike will flip over landing on the front wheel in a perfect stoppie. Another version is the "Flip Stoppie" with a half twist. This one is done by removing one bag. This one is popular on I-5 in LA during rush hour.

Not to worry about leaning foward. What usually happens is that your air bag will deploy. A few dudes have been blown off the back of thier bikes but the really cool guys use tiedown straps so this won't happen. Best IMO to put the tie downs on under your tank top and baggies to effect the really cool look.

I am interested in your bike. Does it have lots of neon lighting? A fart muffler would be a real plus too.
