Hi. Thinking about ordering 'Ricks' brand regulator/rectifier for $90.00 from Bike Bandit today. Anyone know about a better option?

I have yet to see any irrefutable data that supports this is a viable solution for any performance criteria of a R/R.

Its like saying you got laid while wearing a green shirt, so you should always wear a green shirt if you want to get laid again.

When I replaced my my R/R I added a piece of 3/8" or 1/4" thick (can't remember) aluminum between the R/R and it's mounting point as a heat sink. Have no scientific data to say whether or not it's helping but the new R/R has been working fine for about 9 1/2 years. Also added the fan but can't say whether or not that's effective either. As for your specific question I replaced mine with another Honda unit so I can't say whether or not other options are better. I guess that's the extent of my lack of help. Good luck.

while modern regulators dont create much heat, rectifiers do. and well your right about if it works or not.only time will tell. with any electronics getting any and all heat away from parts cant be a bad thing. i went thru the same thing with my 1976 cb550 too. and seeing how much heat is generated by both bike i will add a better option for keeping it cool too.

Ricks seem to be the popular choice, so I say you can't go wrong with that one. Also believe any replacement r/r with cooling fins would be good choice.

Check your wiring, make sure no melted ends.

Both are effective. Anything that removes heat is good; the only question is whether you really need to put up with the extra complication (I haven't bothered with a fan). Be sure to use heat sink compound to make heat transfer into auxiliary heat sink, or into frame, more effective.

If you ride in hot climates, at low speed (meaning less cooling), at high rpms, that is the worst case and needs the most help.
