Just changed my fork oil at 7400 miles. A bit past what I wanted but got around to it at last.It is the filth I knew it would be and the bike is back to normal. I did check the head set as well, and it was just a little loose.Pic is of drained oil and remember it is a clear fluid as new, not the mud in pick.
Way to go, guys! Up until now, that was a closely guarded secret. Looks like I'll have to go back to lard and WD40, just to be different... Oh, by the way, TOE CUTTER, did you notice a huge difference or just a significant improvement?
huge When I raced I was very religious about fork oil...times have changed and I have other things to tend to and get to it when I can. Please do not take my word for it....dump that mud out and see for yourself.Even if you put reworked legs on you bike the oil needs to be changed to keep it working correclty. This is one of my bitches with my group and the bikes I care for.
did you use the same oil it came with or change to something else? I'm curious because with a lot of mountain bike suspension forks, the compression damping can be tuned by using a heavier or lighter weight oil when there is no adjustment on the fork- just like out VFR's. it would be nice to tune out some of the brake dive without having to jack up the preload and make it hard as a rock over bumps...
