Is there an easier way to change the front light bulbs than whats outlined in the maintenance manual (02 version)? According to the manual you've practically got to take the whole front end off just to get at the bulbs. I mean hell fire, let's don't make it difficult. Or is this Honda's way of justifying you must take the bike to the dealer and pay them $80 dollars an hour just to change a light bulb!?
bulbs They look pretty easy to get to, the two top bulbs you will need to pull the covers to the side of the dash ,but if you turn the bars its pretty open.
Hate to sound like a real dumb ass here, but what two covers are you referring to? On my 06 there's hardly enough room to get your hand up in there much less move a cover. You must turn the bulb receptacle counter clock wise and pull it back out of the receptacle, there's just not enough room to do that unless you pull a lot of plastic, or am I totally missing something here?
Check out the following HowTo. Its for an 07 model but may still be relevant for an earlier 6th Gen. http://www.lifford-cooke.com/images/bulb replacement.pdf skimad4x4
Thanks so much skimad4x4 for the pictorials and explanation! I just knew there had to be an easier way to replace a f------------ing light bulb! When I had the side cowling off I tried to remove that very panel and found it really difficult. I didn't force the issue and gave up. However, with this new info I'll give it another try this weekend. I was trying to get at my fuse box which is under the right side of the instrument panel under that very cover. I was trying to follow the maintenance manual and getting more disgusted the further I went. Again thank you!
let me give you a little side note on my experience... seems alot of folks have a tough time getting the plug off the prongs on the bult. it's really damn simple if you know, but it you dont, it will really piss you off and you will likely snap the flat plastic back off the plug. (thought it was just me but apparently there's a lot of us out there that struggled w/ this... DUH!) at any rate, when you grasp the plug on the sides, (the 3 and 9 oclock posititions,) you must actually squeeze the sides, of the plug. so put your full finger pads fully on the sides of the plug, not just on the rear edge. gently sqeeze and they come right off. and try not to touch your new bulb w/ your fingers...
Thanks for the advice, I've made a copy of this and filed it with my other pertinent info of little short cuts on the VFR that makes life just a little more simple!
