I just have to post to try and get this to a 5th page. Most entertaining thread in a while. Although the Obama thread is picking up steam.

Seems to me like everyone is discussing handle characteristics vs steering technique. Because we all know every bike turns by counter steering, your results may vary.

Damit, beers got me typing again.

Friends dont let friends drink and email. Goes for forums too...........

Nice lookin' bike Yo,, it wasn't my intention to change the topic "from steering to handling". It was just my misuse of a term at the moment,,
nothing diabolical, like some of the graffiti posting bad seed idiots around here seem to think.

The topic wasn't started to shake everybody's world to hell 'cept that appears to be what happened. It's amazing to me how far the human condition has fell to come to something like this over a simple discussion.

    LOL
it appears to me that you were talking about the bikes handling more then steering and it did ruffle a few feathers.
and as far as geometry goes yes your Buell and any pure sport bike will be set up for much quicker steering then a VFR.

on a lighter note - alot of the members here are MSF instrutors and some have been riding before you were sucking your thumb and knawing on a fudgesickle, so off the cuff coments and lack of further expaination I can see how your lean to steer bike sent many over the edge.
The world being flat this does happen if you get to close to the edge.

I am gonna de-couple my brakes so I can use my new cornering technique called counter-sliding. Lock up back tire, lean til back end swings waaaaay out, then rev to redline and dump the clutch to start the back tire spinning. 02, they don't teach that one in the sport bike class on base LOL

He was stating the differences on the Buell when you haul a passenger,,
"an exercise of only counter steering",, which would lead me to think that
theres something else goin' on with just one rider.

I would "imagine" its due to the extra rear weight possibly increasing the rake angle of the front forks that "might" cause that. Thats just my terminology to explain the above ,, jeez, I feel like I need a lawyer ever time I say something.

No you just need some correct education and experience on what your talking about. Whether you do or not, it sounds like you don't really have a clue. But you might be learning. Keep coming back we like everybody here.

The bike turns by leaning to the side and the tire tracks around the curve. Countersteering just quickens that process.

Just watch your average Harley rider that hasn't learned that. They are trying to force their bike around the curve. (Not to pick on Harley riders, but they just seem to have the most percentage of riders that have little experience)

    :tsk::doh::frusty:

well there is so much more to it then that
    lets start over :pop2:

1). Countersteering is how you turn a motorcycle.
the harder you apply pressure to the handle bars the faster the bike will roll onto radius of tire. ( this makes the bike turn or as you say lean ) no countersteer no lean.
