    Debate Vs. ????

I was sitting here watching Leno(on TV) do a spoof on "The Presidential Debates",and a slow rising brain fart started moving into my consciousness, not like sitting in water and farting. It was more a liking to sitting on a heavy oil, then farting,I mean just how slow does that air bubble move? Well anyway, that's what just happened to me,It's not like I don't know deep down inside, that the problem with this world is this, " two types of people " .When you see , "The Debates",and notice how controlled their choice of words, and phrasing of points, they want understood their way. Then on the other hand, you(me and ,Joe Plummer),we try to "discuss",ANYTHING,and the next thing you know is (if I can steal a phrase),WHO LET THE DOGS OUT ? Well, that's about the time that fart popped off the surface . I'm thinking,NOW that's the problem with the world ! ! No one can DEBATE ! !

If people would just take the time to think before saying,or doing anything ........................ What the hell ever came of debating issues...............More to the point, why are people shouting, fighting with each other, instead of telling their view,AND listening to the other without getting all emotional about it(even if you are emotionally involved). How can you make a wise decision.

Ghost, so which way are the green and red arrows pointing when turning the other direction? Is the green arrow the turn or the counter turn?

Nice monk, prob seems like I am arguing w/ the poor lad but I am having alot of fun with this thread now.
it seems that " how to steer a motorcycle " got lumped into " how a motorcycle handles "
Really it is 2 seperate things.

so if all motorcycles are grouped together ie all have two wheels, front tire narrower then rear tire, tires going two different speeds on 2 different radius and two pivot points 1 at steering and 1 at swingarm mount to frame/ motor. ( hard tail bikes of course will have only 1 )

it all adds up to 1 thing a motorcycle.

A chopper - sport bike - race bike - and motard bikes all have the above.
they all steer the same " counter steer " but yet because of geometry being different on all mentioned type of bikes they " handle " different from one another.

So I would say Weasel is some what correct if he realises that his comments have combined the " steering " and the " handling " into 1 catagory.

As to go one step further I would say that any I could on my VFR take any corner at the same speed as Weasel while sitting centered on the bike ( not hanging off bike )
as to illustrate that hanging off bike reflects on the handling of the motorcycle NOT the steering.

one last note the stupidest thing he has heard to my comment about steering angle / wheelbase got to me a bit, but as with my "chip thread " I take it all in stride.

Monk, I did not think it was 100% directed at me, but made me look back at post from the begining.
and nice ment i did agree with what you posted.
I also felt that quoting you and therefore kinda directing my comments below your quote would ease what I wrote regarding Weasels comments.

I think that there is a ton of great information in this thread and I hope that it will be a great benefit to new and experienced riders who read it as well.

sticking out the knee, pushing on one peg, just moving your head or body,
just thinking about turning,, sorry, the last is a joke, almost.

Heres a key,, your elbows at or below the level of the grips, the bars have a neutral feel at this point so the bike will find its turn-in easily with very little movement of another kind. Its difficult to get into the prefered tuck due to my size but it can be done. With elbows above the grips, counter steering comes into play alot more and things just don't feel as comfortable as they can be.

Your face will be over the triple tree and side to side somewhat, your up against the tank while cornering, you want weight on the front tire in opposition to an earlier statement,, I don't really hang off that much at all,, its really a good ride, it gives you confidence, has gob's of power and a nice looking bike too.

I like my VFR as well, they are both great attack machines but the Buell will eat the VFR in tighter twisty stuff. In that situation on the Buell, plant pressure both pegs which has the effect of neutralizing pressure on the bars and Go for What ya Know,, use the whole large flat powerband and take advantage of the enormous engine braking. The bike will have to swing below your crotch (somewhat) while taking lefts and rights,, thats where the pressure on both pegs pays off,, its similar to riding a dirt bike 'cept your not standing up of course, just pressure.
The shot off the corner is just terrific,, the tight stuff I'm in second gear for the whole rev range and when the corners open up some, goto third and do the same. Counter steering here, I can't really say, it all happens perdy fast but, the bike is sweeping side to side below you,
more likely pressure from peg to peg, but I can't be sure.

    Load yer guns boys

Seems like someone over at a Buell site shares my findings. I won't use his site name cause it is his real name and I haven't gotten permission to use it
and I would like to spare him the possible on-slaught.

This is a discussion concerning riding 2-up on the 1125r,

Quote: "The 1125r is too compact to be 2-up comfortable for very long.

When riding, the exercise becomes one of only using countersteering, so that's differnt too."

hmmm,, he must be nuts too, yeah?
