I am in the state of North Carolina....I have just discovered that the VFR750 I purchased a few weeks ago is in fact a california model. I imagine that a person would have a similar feeling if they went to the doctor for a regular checkup and came home with a diagnosis of terminal cancer...not good

So I am wondering, does anybody know right off hand just how badly neutered the california model (1996) VFR750 is? has this bike got wimpy cams , lower compression, and a wimpy ECU like some california models of that period did?

It is annoying how frequently these neutered california bikes pop up, even thousands of miles from the peoples republic of kalifornia

Oh god....I just noticed several different camshaft numbers on the microfiche... No wonder my well used 1994 model will walk all over this fresh 1996. F*cking california....u suck

Damn man, smoke a dubie and RELAX! First posts on the forum, and you are freaking out! It is gonna be OK!

For the 5th gen, I know that the cali model has milder cams, different ECU programming, and of course a charcoal evap canister. I think that from '00 on they are all 50 state. Not sure about your bike though. I thought I heard for sure that the 4th had different jetting, and possibly a milder cam profile as well. I cannot confirm all of this though.

Welcome to forum, and spark one up to cool down a bit!

I think it's pretty obvious that they're already smoking something funny, and certainly mind altering.

If you'd like to find out what we do about it, perhaps you shouldn't bash where we live.

My Cali bike goes 150 mph indicated and gets 50 mpg highway. I have no complaints.

look on the bright side, if you ever have to move out here at least you will pass the proposed 2012 bike smog check :)

I didnt realize that california taxed bike performance as bad as they tax homeowners. sorry to hear about it dude.

yeah I will never be moving to california, that is not an issue. I am particularly annoyed because I just happen to have a 49 state 94 model here as well, the power difference is considerable. It is immediately obvious when switching from one to the other that the 49 state bike is much more powerful. Sure, the cali bike may do 150mph but it will take a good deal longer to get there

    HERE HERE, CRUSTY!

Us california riders are just as in love with our bikes as anyone... and we could prolly tell this :asshat: how to give his bike it's kick back, if he'd stop trashin' the state for 2 seconds...

Spend $20 and stretch her legs on the dyno before you condemn her. I bet she does better than you think.

BTW...what part of NC are you in?

Damn it Bear. Can you you lose the picture of your mother. I'm sure she's a really sweet lady and all, but it's kinda making me sick. I hate to admit it, but I prefered the tutu pic.

I got a Cali bike too, in Utah! I'm to old to worry about "not enough power", but don't care for all the extraneous garbage hanging off the engine. On the other hand, hey, maybe it's not so bad that it doesn't pollute so much. Guess I can't get worked up too much either way. I'll probably just leave it as it is until some part of that pollution stuff causes trouble (if it ever does), and then rip it all out.

Wouldn't mind hearing how others deal with Cali bikes though...

I am about an hour south of the blue ridge parkway....an hour west of Charlotte

I am not condemning the poor bike, merely stating that it has had its nuts snipped at the factory...those of you who doubt that this could be the case have probably never ridden a 49 state and cali model back to back as I have . Still have them both in the garage. The cali bike has 14K miles, the 49 stater has 38.5K.... the 49 stater will walk all over the cali bike and has a "hit" at about 7k rpm's that the cali bike is lacking.

It is still a good bike, but the fun factor has been reduced a little

You should have had the common sense to check the VIN, if you're so concerned about it. But you didn't, and now it's a state that's at fault for your own gross ignorance? I love people that blame their own ignorance on someone, or something, else. Take responsibility for your own actions, it's nobody's fucking fault but yours. Maybe you could meet up with Knife and have a circle jerk while complaining about California, it might make you feel better.
