Bike wont start

Was planning on meeting up with some guys and riding the mountains all day today. Its been about a week since ive been able to ride so i was very excited. When i went to start her up she gave me a little trouble but eventually ran. I figured it was because this has been the longest its sat since ive owned it. But then going down the street it felt odd, it seemed like i had to open the throttle more than usual. Come up to the first stop sign, and it dies, not to be started again. Just cranks over, idles for about a second or two then dies, with the choke having little effect. Thing that gets me is the valves were checked and carbs synced (didnt need to be cleaned) a couple months ago, and ive been riding it almost everyday.

Any ideas?

 

how much fuel is supposed to come out of the pump? i took the hose off and tried to start it but its just dribbling out.

also, why does my pump have a mitsubishi logo on it

 

not sure about the logo, but it may be a replacement part from P/O...as far as your problem goes...trie popping your cap open.....relieve the pressure...your fuel pump would run unless the bike is running. it will pump a few times when you first turn on the key. but would pump unless the bike is running(safety feature I think..in case of a wreck) you can go into your service manual and it will tell you how to jump the relay to check to see if your fuel pump is shot.
check fuses and fuel filter.....

Fuel pump

All the fuel pumps were manufactured by mitsubishi back then and still may be. Jump the fuel pump to the battery and see if it will pump.If it does it may be a bad fuel pump relay,they do fail from time to time.The fuel pump only fires once per revolution as the relay gets the signal from pick up coil.

 

thanks guys. it was the fuel pump relay. i put a jumper on it and it works great now. actually seems a little better than before. is it ok to keep it like that or should i buy another relay?
