When I was out in Cali a while back visiting my son, I saw a bunch of Sport Bike Squids with Walky Talky's affixed to the outside of their helmets (many even on the back), why? (I can guess, but wondered if I'm right.)

I got a Cardo Scala Q2 teamset - it is great - I'm teaching my GF to ride - so instead of stopping all the time I can talk to her. Going on a trip next week with a friend - I figure we can use them to just communicate easier (pull over now, etc....) - I have a TomTom Rider 2 so I can tell the next gas station/etc....

OK, so is there a cheap & easy (don't have to wire into bike) setup for pillion comm, that could also work for bike-to-bike?

    They're probably police scanners(?).

That's a great price for the Cardo Scala Rider Q2 Multiset, if it's the latest version with the MP3 stereo jack. The earlier version doesn't have this.

My brother and I used ours on a 5,000+ mile trip a few weeks ago, and it worked flawlessly. It was great to be able to converse bike-to-bike.

Yes - it has the mp3 jack - I'm very happy - ear pieces are great - boom mike - GF says I sound like I'm calling from Europe when I talk to her via my Cell Phone.

+1. Alot of groups use em around here. Setting up comms and check points helps keep us safe from the po-po as well as traffic, on-coming or otherwise. The caynon rides on the outskirts of LA are really fun but they can also be extremly dangerous because of police infestation and general traffic. Comms. and check points are vital to keeping your bike and staying out of jail not to mention living, breathing, etc... especially at 2x to 3x the posted speed limits.
