I think in a lot of places, that would be cause for arrest and impound.

I also get pissed when on-duty cops don't obey traffic rules. Unless they have their emergency lights on, they should be bound by the same rules.

    read it again

"officers technically have six months to issue a minor-misdemeanor citation under Ohio law"

"he could face a $150 fine and a license suspension of up to three years because the high speed constituted reckless driving" ............ no license = no job

    "A trial is pending"

Off topic, but I have to reply to this...

That's one of those "Walk a mile in their shoes" cases. Every agency has rules dictating when you can turn on your lights. And sometime I can get through and around traffic without lights on faster than I can with them on. You would be amazed at how many peoples brains roll right out of their ear when they see lights. I've had women and old people come to a dead stop, right in middle of the travel lane on the highway because they freeze up and don't know what to do.

If I'm on a two lane highway, and no one is in front of me to move, there is no point in turning them on because the people in the oncoming lane are about crashing because someone pulls over like their supposed to by law, but some dumbass pulls around them and about causes a head-on.

Running code is not as easy as turning on the lights and everyone gets out of the way.

If I had to turn on my lights everytime I needed to make an illegal u-turn, or break the speed limit to catch a speeder or go to a call, there would be a lot more accidents.

I would say only 70% of the people KNOW what to do when they see emergency vehicles, and of that 70%, only 20 % actually do pull over and come to a stop like their supposed to.

I've been running code, lights, siren, everything and have 5 cars pull over to the side ahead of me, but some moron that I'm RIGHT BEHIND isn't paying attention, and apperantly doesn't even wonder why all the cars are running off the road in both directions and just goes around them continuing down the road. The whole time with me behind them lighting up the world.

People DO NOT PAY ATTENTION. You ride a bike, you know this already.

I'm not ripping on anyone here. Just stating that there is a lot more to our job than you think, it's just in the public eye so everyone has an opinion on how we should do our job.

Now on topic.... There is no excuse for riding like that, and if I was caught doing that I would be given some time off without pay to think about it a while regardless what the court decided. That's if I even got to keep my job. Just because the court may be going easy on them, they still have a boss to answer too also.

Interesting to see where the trail will go. I guess his scumbag attorney will fill the jury box with fellow officers?

Man, that's a bold move when most 'citizens' get really pissed off at this type of behavior from those in uniform. To face a jury trial? Good luck. Or good luck with the plea deal and the enourmous amont of money he'll spend on his scumbag attorney.

When the "rule of law" is ignored by those who rule, what's it's point?

I always wanted to get/make my own ticket book, then pull over any cop I see breaking the law and give him a "citizen's citation"; but, I haven't won the lotto yet and can't afford the payback...

tough shit!. I have gotten a ticket for doing 20MPH over. I was serving at the time but off duty. I paid the friggen fine. I have also pulled people over for doing 40 mph over and have given them warnings. These two guys not only face their violation charges, but they also face disciplinary action from their employers too. SO they face two disciplinary processes for one action. That stinks of double jeopardy to me. Does a mechanic, teacher salesman or the such face job action for a speeding offense. Not likely.

I sure wished I could get a discount at Sears or Walmart.

Suck it up people. I have never met anyone who is perfect yet. But I am still looking.

    VFRstar,

    Stay safe and thank you

BTW. Here int he UFRR I am the Chief of Police, prosecuting attorney and judge. I am the only one who can write myself a ticket. When I do..I dispute it and the LEO part of me does not show for court, the Prosecutor part of me gets pissed, the judge in me throws out the charge...and the VFRrider in me just keeps on friggen riding. Ucktum boogie woogie chicken.

Yes Randy, those professions can and do face similar actions from their employers. I can say Sherwin-Williams has zero tolarance for employees with lots of points or loss of liscense.

My main profession as a labor law enforcement officer, yes a massive speeding ticket would probably mean loss of job or busted down to nothing.

My part time job as a MSF Coach? More than 2 points here in DE and I'm out of the program until my points are gone. Which really translates to 'You are out of the program'.

They block the left lane on multi-lane highways, roll through stop signs, etc., etc. Shouldn't they be required to know the Rules of the Road inside out, and set an example? Pure arrogance, or perhaps ignorance, IMHO.

Yeah Randy many other jobs do face similar punishment. When I was in the military they made it well known that not only did we face civilian charges for infractions but also we were held up to the UCMJ and we all agreed to it so there was no double jeopardy. As a nurse, speeding prob wouldn't result in disciplinary action as long as I could get to work on public trans because my bike and license most likely would have been seized. Have I ever doon those speeds? Nope (but not for lack of tryin!) I have gone very fast on a long straight out here that you traversed after leaving us on your last ambassadorial mission. How fast did you make it to out there? I just don't get that much of a charge from the straight line speed like I do from the corner speed.

Seems I stand corrected to some degree. Obviously things are a bit different down there than here. To loose one's licence may have an effect on a job here too, but other than that, I am unaware of any penalties from an employer here. It may of course prevent new employment due to a record on one's driving abstract.

I am the first to admit, I am no angel when it comes to speed. But if and when I get stopped, I am prepared to take what is delivered to me...legally anyways. And I agree that LEO's are held to a higher standard. But should they? Are they better than us? All I am saying is suck it up people. If they get some sort of break so be it. Move on. Right now I get free transit passes for myself and one other in the family as a perk to the job. That would get me out of a ticket for Fail to Present Proof of Payment under the Transit Conduct and Safety Regulations here. This people is a $173.00 fine. And in my former life, I had never knowingly wrote a speeding ticket to a cop. Not that I wouldn't if the circumstances waranted it at the time. This case may have been one of them depending on when and where and many other things.

You know, my warning to ticket rate was somewhere between 10 - 15% warnings. That is one shit lot of people who got off without a ticket. And those are the ones that I pulled over. Not to mention, probably the hundreds of thousands that went by that I did not even blink at.

I knew I would probably set something in motion with my post. Hell I didn't even have a nip of scotch in my hand when I posted. I just got home from work and I will not say what this VFR's top speed was then. I know very few LEOs out there now so If I was to get stopped, then I suspect I stood a high chance of getting a coupon. If I did not, then that would be gravey.

And Reg.. I am surprised at you. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think you were a spirited rider. Am am still looking forward to Slo4 next year.

Wow. Such anger. Heehee. Come on now. Nothing we Muricans like better than a good scandal, except maybe when an authority figure takes one on the chin. Every job has it's little perks and getting to run around public roads doing things that make the rest of us jealous is small repayment for having to deal with the dregs of society most of the time. Generally speaking I'm not a huge cop fan ( they're always too damn nosy for my liking) but the fact remains they do a job I don't want to do, and like any other job they have good apples and bad. Around here at least twice a year they crash into someone (usually newbie cops) and it got so bad they had to change their code response protocols.

Bottom line. They get in trouble like everyone else when they get caught and it usually winds up being much worse for them then it would for me

I am not angry. When I get angry with myself I clam up and won't talk to myself for weeks.

BTW I like to fish too LOL
