I wave to everyone also. Scooters too. I've usually forgotten the riders who don't wave back before they're in my rear view.

Sport and sport tourer bike riders always wave, even the squids in shorts, a tee shirt, and sandals.

Cruisers and choppers almost always wave.

A lot of the Beemer boys have their noses so far up in the air they can't see you to wave.

Oddly, dual sport riders almost never wave. Maybe they're sitting up so high they don't see me way down here.

That's been my experience. But I wave to EVERYONE, including the little scooters that are all over the place now, but they don't seem to get it. Different culture, I suppose.

I notice that single Harley riders will usually wave, but if they are riding in a group with their leather and tassel clad brethren, they are all of a sudden too cool for school. It pisses me off. I want to turn around and explain to them why my bike is so much cooler that theirs.

I wave to pretty much anyone on a motorcycle. It used to piss me off if they didn't wave back, but after giving it some thought, I realized that I just don't care!

I wave if somebody waves at me, but personally, I think the waving is a little silly. It can get tedious with a lot of riders on the road. I live in a place where folks in cars wave too, and even cops. Not waving back does not mean you are a snob, it may mean you are tired of waving or you have something on your mind or whatever. It's one thing to wave at some guy you never saw and will never see again, another thing entirely to have a nice conversation with somebody about your bike or his, at a rest stop or cafe. The latter is being social, the former is pretty silly and meaningless.

On the other hand, when out in the boonies with nobody around for miles, when you see another rider a wave it can be reassuring. And waving at kids in minivans, heck, you have to do that!

I would have to agree with your reasoning, however, i never get tired of commradery.
I never played football. never joined the militery. im not real close to my family. Waving to fellow bikers is all I got, and I am cool with it. A few years back I was on my 1977 cb750 and saw a broken down harley on my normal route to work. We always waived.....but this time the belt that drove the bike was broken and he wasnt mobile.
I stopped to assist. No offense to any of you that ride male passengers, but its not my thing. I did let him on the back of my honda and gave him a ride
back to his trailer and truck. ( he hung on to my belt loops there was no hanky panky lol ).
If he was one of the hd riders in that redneck town i grew up in that purposefly turned there nose up when i waived i doubt i would have helped.

Who am I kidding, i still would stop and help hoping to bridge the gap between the idiots and the whatever I am's.

anyways, im never to tired to waive, but I only see about 2 or 3 bikes a day.

I'll wave when I can (not holding in the clutch or turning) and everybody around here waves too, Harley, Beemer, doesn't matter. I pulled up beside one guy on a BMW at a stop light and chatted a little, he said his buddy has a VFR like mine and really likes how it sounds and looks. This weekend I was in WV and beside a guy on a Harley who was travelling with two more in front of me and he looked over and said "How's it going brother" before I could even get my visor up. Every once in a while I'll run into some that don't say anything but most are pretty chatty and at least say 'hey', 'great weather' or something.

I wave anytime I see another person wearin' a helmet, whether it's a crotch rocket, cruiser, scooter, trike, Can-Am, custom deal, whatever...

The only time I don't wave is if it'll impair my ability to ride (examples include tight corners, lanesplitting, or really windy days)
If I see a guy across an intersection, a nod usually works, especially because my helmet makes a nod VERY noticeable

It makes me smile inside my full-face to get a wave back from someone, even on the freeway goin' the other direction... likewise, it kills me when snobs don't wave back...

Too many squids get bikes just to be cool or get sweet gas mileage, and don't appreciate the comradery that exists between us all... Bikers are a rare breed that still shows brotherhood in almost every case

    I LOVE THAT PART!

I once actually bumped knuckles with a passenger in a suped-up convertible... He turned to the driver afterwards all excited and gesturing, it was great  I also wave at truckers, especially when they let me merge...
Sometimes the little niceties on the road go a long way

I always wave. Unless, of course, I'm in an intersection, turning, braking, etc. I'd be lying if I said that I've never come across a snobby HD-er who refused to wave and acknowledge my existence. Some riders just seem to have forgotten the communal essence behind riding. It's all about the freedom, camaraderie, diversion, and alleviation.
So lighten up, damn it! (...for those indicted! ..who probably aren't on this site... lol)

I was out last night and the weather was beautiful. I was really enjoying being out and another biker passed me in the opposite direction. He must have been having a great time too since he not only waved, but was pumping his fist in the air. Put a big smile on my face :)

I recently completed a 5,000+ mile ride. I waved to literally hundreds of motorcyclists, only missing maybe five due to day dreaming. Nearly all waved back. My left arm almost fell off, though.

Two finger to bikes, one finger (the middle one) to assholes, and tap on the top of my helmet to warn others about the 5-0.

I wave to little kids in cars and buses to, man they get a kick out of it.

Man, I wish bikers would warn me out here... idk, maybe it's just the locals, but nobody ever warns me, and I end up squeezin' brake hopin' that radar gun didn't focus too long...

Did have a guy in a truck pull up to a stop sign, across an intersection, and scream out the window for me to watch it... sure enough, 5-0 was hidin' around a corner after I pulled away from the sign... Liked that guy

and ya HAVE to wave to kids

You're right, kids love it when you wave to them. When I pass a car with kids in it, I stare in the side windows at them as I pull up along side and wave. Their faces go from a look of fear to a look of glee.Wish I could still get that excited about things like that. It's great to be a kid, and kids are great!
