Ok anyone experience this? My 86 750 with 34k on makes a clunking noise when running in gear on the rear stand with the rear wheel off the ground.(letting it idle in gear) The higher gears seem to be worse. It isn't constant just every 10-15 seconds it will make a clunk clanging noise. Apply throttle and I can't hear or feel it and while riding I don't feel it. Any one else experience this? I don't want to be riding and have the trans lock up on me.

Chain is adjusted, front sprocket is tight. I'll drain the oil and cut open the filter in the next couple of days to look for metal.

Someone please tell me this is normal with no load on the drive train.
    Thanks guys.

probably normal loosenes of several elements like chain slack, cushdrive rubbers, wheel balance, etc.all working together and adding up. Less than perfect carb synch makes the effect worse.

Unless severly abused by PO, transmissions last well on gen 2 bikes.

    go with squirrel

I think you would be hard pressed to find a bike that would not do the same under the same conditions.
