    Top speed?

    Don't know, don't care.

I enjoy the MY VF for what it's best at:

Flat torque curve and "freight train grunt" out of the corners......

I think one of the cycle mags back in the 80's clocked my (well, not my exact one) 85 vf750f around 134 MPH though.

Hey, no offense need be taken. You made a nice point. I was just clarifying. And I didn't see where you mentioned aerodynamics, at all. Those are the 2 most important parts of the equation.

No offense at all klee27x... You are right, I didn't expressly mention aerodynamics; in my mind that was included with weather conditions, but obviously my telepathy is lacking... I'll work on (and edit) it.

All these haters...I believe most of us know that our speedos are off between 10 and 15% hi...The stipulations for this thread were basically how fast have you had it. Most of us only have the factory speedo to use for this info. I know my bike won't do 180mph (especially with me on it). ...but I have been back to the future more times than I can count... ;) And Echo3niner, don't feel bad...I am a bit telepathetic sometimes myself.....

I ride a first or second gen (1987, not sure where that fits) VFR700F, and I pulled 120 without even trying. I was only pullin' 7.5 outta the 12rpm tach. I smoke Gixxers on the freeway on a regular basis, by myself AND with my 150lb gf on the back... In fact my bud rides a 2008 GSXR750, and I've left him behind several times. These bikes may not be the "best" to mod, but they sure as hell stack up to any Suzie you can bring up... and, my bike gets more stares at the bike nights :) for a 22-yr-old bike, mine seems to kick enough ass...

123 mph indicated (about 115-118 actual, no GPS) with a lot of rpms left before redline in 6th, at about 9:00am on US 52 southbound from Pilot Mountain, NC, north of exit 116 last Saturday morning. No traffic to speak of for two miles in front of me, at least not in front of me, and behind me? I wasn't terribly concerned about anyone coming up on me fast. Quick glance at the speedo, stayed at that speed for a few seconds before I let off the gas. Fastest I've had this bike, actually that's the fastest I've ever driven anything. Have only had the Subaru 2.5GT Ltd to about 105 even though there's a lot more throttle left at that speed.

my 4G '96felt very stable at this elevated (for me) speed - my bike rocks!!

    PD

Pyro, you are absolutely right, Viffer's kick enough ass; that's why I bought the one I have. I compared them to the 600 Gixxer, just because I happened to see the GSXR600's stats on "Twist the throttle" (which I was turned onto by members of this forum) the other night, and they make a good benchmark.

I used to race Gixxers (amateur) back in the day, and when it came time to buy a new bike, I bought a Viffer, but I bought it for honest reasons; it is a sport's bike, whos ergonomics are not to the point where you have to be a member of a contortionist troop to be able to ride it for more than 15 minutes. I didn't even look at Gixxers, cause I'm too old and outta shape to enjoy one; and what's true for the Goose, is also true for the Gander, and I like to ride 2up with the wife. I would hazard a guess that your ability to smoke Gixxers regularly is more an assessment of your willingness to push-it, vs. the bikes overall capabilities. I'm NOT saying a Viffer can't keep up; but all else being equal (in other words, you on a Gixxer would be even faster), let's be honest...

Point is, I LOVE my Viffer (I am NOT a hater), but I also know it ain't no (insert your fav repli-racer here) Gixxer... I've had mine up to between 120-125; and I may get her up faster than that at some point; but much over a buck fifty I would be surprised by based on my research.

I have taken mine to the max several times. I have the roads to do it. On a flat suface I have hit, or at least the speedometer has read 150+ more than once. I know a lot of speedos are wrong. However just the other day I happend to cruise by a mph radar display. It read 22, i looked down, speedo was at 22.

Now with that said, everytime I have hit over 150 I had the throttle in 5th with about 1000rpms left and I wasnt going any faster. In one instance, I was on the a hightway stretch and had the bike maxed as i mentioned above, and I was lovin it until a friend of mine in a ZX-10 blew by me. He said he was over 170.

The 04 VFR can get over 150 fairly easy, just not much faster.

    My small part is here

:eek:okay after 19 pages of this I have to say something.
To me, after riding YAMS SUKES and KAWIS for the longest time,
I knew that when it was time to slow down and take the classy ride,
that I'd eventually get a Viffer.
It's the statement that says "hey, I did my crazy stupid ass riding on those other expendable bikes, now I'm here. I'm gonna take some punks out to the real roads on my VIFFER. I'm gonna make them wish they could ride like me. I'm gonna lose their asses with their high output high horsepower inlines, and (not that I smoke) but I'm going to light my 80$ cigar at the end of these roads while I'm waiting, and have a few puffs off so they can see what it's like to have the slow bike on the straights be the leader where it really counts.

    That being said, 155:thumbsup:

I just love that my 1987 keeps up (and sometimes passes) even 2008 models... maybe it's my willingness to pin that throttle, idk, but it does my heart good when I pass my bud on his GSXR 750 and see the suprised look on his face :p

If this is open to all bikes my Fastest speed was 211.7 mph according to the gps in my pocket. 01' Hayabusa turbo. I know it had more but I was running out of road. Fastest 1/4 mile pass was 8.53 @ 187 same bike.

Sorry I had read where other people had posted speeds with other bikes. I was just trying to join in on the fun. I didn't mean to make anyone mad, If I did I am sorry.

Well, I had an interesting experience this weekend. I had posted earlier that my top speed was 151. Well, this past Saturday, I was out on a smooth, desert road where I could see for miles and punched it... on the way there AND the way back. I noticed in 4th and 5th gear, the tach was past redline, well into the 13K RPM range before I shifted. When I got to 6th gear, it would not go past 10K RPM and stopped at 155MPH. I had the throttle pinned all the way. It seems as if my 6th gen COULD go faster than 155MPH if allowed, but there is a governor of sorts that keeps it at 155.... :-( Anyone else have this same experience?

Someone made a good point to me earlier. Why would anyone openly admit to committing a felony?

I have the same problem, there´s no power left in the bike after 10k rpm in 6th gear, I´ve change the front sprocket into 15 but there´s no difference. Right now I´m waiting for a 45 for the rear, hopefully it will have som effect. Less top speed  but it will be interesting to see if I might be able to squees out some more after 10k rpm

    Top flight

185 has been my fastest. I have a 2001 VFR. Added power commander, stage 3 NOS and got rid of the governor/rev limiter. Not to mention I ditched the rear foot pegs and replaced the subframe with light aluminum. Also replaced the stock rims with titanium allow rims to further lighten the load. Was clocked by a sherriff buddy of mine. Will probably never go that fast again. LOL Average speed when racing on the road track is between 30 and 145
