My girlfriend just got a pomeranian(not my first choice, i wanted a german shepherd). Anyway, in an effort to get my girl to ride on the back more, i figured I would build some sort of carrier. My current plan is to buy a topcase rack and either use a topcase with lots of vents cut in. My other idea is to use a dog crate and make a mount for it to go onto the topcase rack.

Has anyone done anything like this, i know they make them but they are all for cruisers.

OK, if you do this for the express purpose of getting the girlfriend on the bike, then I will reserve judgment.

But the first time we catch you on the bike with the dog and NOT the girlfriend...you're toast.

You said Pomeranian, this says kitty, how much different could they possibly be. Use this thing, some duct tape & a bungee cord or two & you're set.

I hate to admit but its probably a safe bet. The dog looks like a Fox, its pretty cool looking, havent met it yet though, not till august when I come home. On a side note, I love the VFR, just did 100 miles with some buddies and it was great, nice to have something a little different that can keep up with just about anything out there within reason.

I'd like to be able to use the topcase for the dog and then also just to carry stuff....itd be nice if I could buy a shad or givi topcase with two top halves, one I would slot vents into and one I would leave closed.....there are some cheapo topcases on ebay but I have no idea what the quality is. Another issue is that I am not sure what size case I would need. the dog is about 10 pounds

Maybe Squirrelman can fix you up with, yes, a squirrel, and you can ride around with it in your backpack like he does. Nothing gay about that, not that there's anything wrong with that!

    Say's who?

All the small dogs and cats that I have seen on bikes were in the tank bags. One was a real fooler. All black BMW, black tank bag and a coal black cat. You didn't notice the cat until you saw it's yellow eyes.

I'd say use a heavy duty dog carrier that fits in the top case or mounts on the rack. You can lift it off without a chance of the dog getting loose and it would be easy to transport from the bike to house, motel, etc. Shop around on the net and you'll find one that fits the bill.
Just curious, how were you planning to get a German Shepherd on your bike?

haha I wasnt going to put a german shepherd on my bike. This idea just came up because she bought a small dog. I agree that I need to be able to remove the carrier without it opening since the dog might be a little jumpy after a ride.

If you check on Ebay I think you can find some rainbow stickers to put on the back of your carrier/topcase

This is the funniest thing I've seen in a long, long time! LMAO! I sent it to all of my cat-lover friends. Expect hate mail to be coming in starting at any moment. Can't wait!
