Happy Monday everyone! Anyone have any experiences , reviews or rants about turn signal cancelling units? I've got a nasty habit of leaving the damn things on and it's led to a couple of tense moments, I need to do something before some cage pulls out in front of me due to my own stupidity. I can already imagine some of the responses I'll get but bring it on..

I'm sorry but I too must not answer your actual question and tell you to start using the button. Having one of those things is just gonna reinforce your bad habit my friend. Make up a song or something like they teach you in your MSF class. "signal, shoulder check, change, cancel"..."signal, shoulder check, change, cancel"..."signal, shoulder check, change, cancel" or something like that.

Now this might sound dumb , but do they have the MSF course in Ontario? I'm going to check around, we had a cheesy licensing course here but it was really basic, very little road riding skills but man can I do figure eights!

This is what works as a foolproof system for my brother, who ALWAYS forgets to cancel his turn signal. He rides in front and I ride behind him, and I abuse and belittle him over our Scala Rider intercoms every time he forgets to cancel his signal. He's getting better, but is not yet cured. I've enrolled him in a "Turnsignals Anonymous" 12-step program (Serenity Now!). He may relapse now and then, but it should take eventually.

Why not just whack him in the back of the melon with a rotten carp! The stench would remind him:biggrin:

Not sure about Ont but here in BC we have schools (courses) that teach you how to ride as well as help you get your license. My course was about 3 classrooms with 4 or 5 full days of riding. May or may not be similar to what you took but they did teach me a song which I forgot LOL. I do cancel my signals though. It's habit now... I think...

Go to ridertraining.ca . This is the Rider Training Institute Website. I know 2 people had never ridden before who took this couse and it was great! If you are a rider already, it gives you a break on your insurance.

They offer a number of courses: Riding Basics, Riding Strategies, Intermediate Rider Training Program, Technical Rider Training Program.

There are electric add-on's that well do that for you(might try Googling it).
I got in the habit from driving articulated trucks(semi's). They don't have self cancelling signals because of all the back and forth turning it takes, some times, to just make one turn.

I can only say I feel your frustration, after some years of hardleys I got spoiled by the self-cancelling turn sig's they all came with.
Don't really understand why Honda wouldn't put them on their bikes.....
but I have the same trouble as you, I don't always remember to cancel them. It's habitual and I guess, like you, I will relearn the routine.
