Thanks for the advice but I tried that in my area(mn) and was told by 3 different shops that the assembly is discontinued for the 1986 model.
If you can find a new one, please point me in that direction.
Used in good condition would be fine too.

I bought the complete assembly for my 500 about 6 years ago. I was told back then that Honda only had 3 left in stock before they were gone. I also bought a brand new gas tank that I still have in the box in which they said was the last one in American Honda inventory. With that said, you will probably have to go used. eBay does have quite a few parts for the 500. Also, have you checked any local bike shops to see if they have parts bikes? It might be worth a call.

Just wondering, does it HAVE to from that make/model? Or would one from another year, etc, work? Is it vacuum operated like many?

Is there a way to modify the 84 85 petcock to fit the 86?

Also, great white, your bike looks good, what did you do to it?

Exactly what is wrong with the petcock?

Jamie D has a trick for getting them to work. I can't remember what it was right now, but it involved modifying a diaphragm or something like that...

tried that trick, but it sounds like its gummed up from inside somewhere.
ive read that if rust has gone through the petcock it will pit the insides and buildup will occur .
I have a friend doing the work, he got a gravity fed lawnmower tank to work no problem.
If I could convert this tank to a gravity feed, then my problems solved.
    The vacuum is the problem

    Yep - Here it is:

Daugherty Motorsports - Motorcycle Suspension Performance and Modification

Just some carb cleaner should fix that up. Are you sure that you modified the valve completely per the instructions in the link above?

FYI - your bike was gravity feed from the factory. The vacuum line is not a fuel pump, it's a safety device. I'm pretty sure it's your diaphragm that is causing your problems. Go back and check my site again to make sure that you've properly modified the valve and I think you will be all set.
