    this freakin sucked!!!

I was going 94ish when i saw a peacock. It got across the road just fine so i didnt worry about it. it was clear and i was still a ways away.

just as i pass its babies darted across. even if i was going 20 mph the outcome woulda been the same.

we dont have many peacocks in michigan.

sure i hunt,, but this just sucked.:frown::frown::frown:

Well your a good person for caring. As per your story there was nothing you could do to avoid them so don't be too hard on yourself. Blame society for building a road there instead.

No lie! At least it was the BABY Peacocks, better than a big raccoon, possum, turkey, or deer, we have PLENTY of those here in God's Country!

At 94ish you travelled 137.87 feet per second. At 60 mph you would have travelled only 88 feet per second. A difference of 77 feet per second. A couple of seconds would have saved those Peacocks. Damn! Are you in that much of a hurry?
On the other hand if you rode out there last week or so at any speed you might have run over the eggs. Life's like that. At least you have a conscience. But 94?

Yeah, we all bought VFRs to go 60.
Either someone hasn't thought it through or they're trolling.

When we get into/onto a motorized vehicle, we take responsibility for all of the carnage on the road that day, if any of us could avoid any of it we usually would (I say usually because some folks are really ignorant about the value of snakes, for instance).

I've hit two bats with my helmet, and I really like bats. I've helped two dying gopher snakes (hit by cars) off the road. I may be tending toward killing the next one that I find, though humans tend to find the final hallucinations before death blissful, those are the ones who don't actually die (it's not an after life experience if you live through it, folks).
A few weeks ago I added to my tally one squirrel who had dragged itself between lanes using it's still functional front legs. I hope that I made a clean kill, that squirrel was over with either way, but if I hadn't been lane sharing I probably would have avoided it. Of course I don't ride motorcycles to not lane share.

In short, sorry about the birds, I know it sucks, but I'm equally responsible for their demise as I rode today too, and the day before, the day before that, etc.

Me neither...and I live here lol.

Are you positive it wasn't a turkey or a pheasant? I've never seen wild peacocks... though I know plenty of people who keep them on their farms near here. Maybe some got out or something.

In my previous life I saw someone deliberately run over a duck. I arrested his sorry ass and sent him to court. Cruelty to Animals is a Criminal Offence here. But Buddy, accidents do happen. I have hit a few animals in my time and know the feeling.

We have tons of peacocks in my town and I can tell ya they breed like rabbits. Guarantee someone brought them to your area for whatever reason and these are a product of that. Don't feel bad.... it happens

FYI: The number of eye spots on a peacock's tail is directly correlated to how much pea hen action he gets.

Its sad seeing an animal die on the road, 2 years ago on a VFR ride a 5 ft Goanna darted from side bushes infront of the guy I was following he had no choice but run straight over its middle near cutting it near in half...saw it happen in slow motion but could nothing except observe and vere behind as it folded in on itself...:frown:

This kind of stuff happens, you know it wasnt intentional.Anyway I am a truck driver
now. I try to go by a rule when animals run accross the road, it has saved my ass a few times." Where there is one there is more " I dont know how many times a deer has
crossed in front of me ,then a few seconds later 3 or 4 will run out and cross the road
very close to where thre first one crossed ! By slowing way down in these situations, I have saved a considerable number of animals and sheet metal ! eddie
