87 VFR single-side swing arm conversion

I've always wondered if it's been done yet. I'd love to do it to my 87, but...can't find any resources as a reference to see how it's been done, if it's been done at all.

Anyone seen anything, anywhere?

One of the nicest 1st. gen mods I've seen. Well, it is possible, all I needed to know. Now, do I want to tackle it? Not at this time, I'm still dealing with body work at this point, potential front end swap. Fack...

 

2nd gen

Was not to tough and went pretty quick, about a month, and lots of other projects at the same time and had to figure out from scratch.Good bike but wonderful bike with fork and rear wheel mod. :biggrin:

 

I actually broke down on purpose in Toes driveway so I could get him to keep my bike and make the magic happen on mine:biggrin::biggrin::biggrin:!

 

Tex......did you get the SSSA on your 87?..... I might have to "break down" in TOE's drive way as well

i love the swap you did i may try to tackle that this winter. do you have improvements in handling with the new swinger wheel shock combo?

I think what he was implying was that after Toe tears the 87 apart, that they should, just because its apart and would hate to waste the oportunity might as well just go ahead and throw a SSSA on just for shits and giggles...... I mean after all, its just a couple of more hours AND the bike is already apart...:biggrin:

 

Nice mod with better tyres for sure, and it's good that someone with the time and talent tried it. But getting the job done appears to have raised rear of bike quite significantly, and that can't help handling and may represent a compromise based upon shock limitations?

Any data on weight differences between stock and ss swingarm??

 

glad you brought that up squirrel......It does appera to have raised the rear up a bit..but I think TOE replaced the stock shock with one a little newer....so far he hasn't had any handling problems......but I should let him talk about that.....

 

single vs double thread

Not sure what gives you the impression the ride height is higher but in single vs. double thread there is a picture of before and after and quite a bit of attention was given to getting that to where I had it previous.The height was changed back in the early 90's when I first changed the forks and rear wheel to gain a little more clearance as the pipes were prone to scrapng.It holds better with less sag and the dog walk they are well known for while cornering is gone, a little stiff for my old butt ,but on last group ride we went on the only one that out ran me was an 06 GSXR 1000...on hwy 193 from Lincoln to Auburn....told myself I was not going to ride this bike like that again but it is a little hard not to.

I think you ass looks fine at the height it is TOE......(meaning the bike)

I went back and looked too, I think its the angle of the picture that makes it look higher....
