    Again, I did search first...

My 1984 VF700F resurrection project is going well. After cleaning the carbs and adjusting the points she's running like a top despite 48,000 MILES!

The bad part is that she spent the last 5 - 10 years out side, uncovered. The sun destroyed the gauge cluster. The plastic cover is extremely clouded and the tach and speedo needles are broken off.

Can I polish the plexi-glass and replace needles? I'd prefer to aviod buying an entire new cluster when my cluster is still mechanically functional...

    Ideas?

    Oh Hey,
I just wrote you back about that emission control stuff. I think I have a couple spare pointers and a cluster lens I'll check the garage and PM you later.

I've used the blue head light polish on the clouded lenses on my car and it worked beautifully. I'd try that before looking for a replacement part.

I suppose broken needles could be glued back on?

    "Blue head light polish"?
Is this available at autozone or Napa?

...My needles are actually broken half way down the needle. The base is still attached to the gauge... they just point to a general area on the circumference of the speedo and tach.

I've used Mequiar's "PlastX" with good results!

I believe I picked the stuff up at an Autozone. I'll check the bottle when I get home and confirm the brand.

Could you repair the needles using some kind of epoxy and a piece of wire? Lay the wire along the length of the needle and then epoxy the whole thing together?

So I ended up using the cheapest head light repair kit I could find:

    - Harbor Freight Tools - Quality Tools at the Lowest Prices

It worked rather well. It doesn't look like new or anything, but it looks MUCH better! I'd rank it at least 85-90%.

My needles are still broken off (and lost) due to test rides with the cluster missing the lens...

Just thought I'd offer a conclusion to the thread.
