If you can find the Pirelli Diablo Corsa III's for a price less than the 2CT's I'd give the DCIII's a whirl.

The DCIII's are bad ass brother. (Yes, I am biased, just not bias plyed:biggrin:). Since I have some experiance with them. Alos, Jeff runs them on his Busa for the track. Best tires he's ever run, and he's been riding a while now.

They are very comparable to each other, so I've heard nothing but good on both.

Yeah, I notice... You obviously struck a nerve in me... For 5 years I ate, breathed, slept Performance cars at Chrysler - it's part of who I am now. THOSE cars do not suck. That's about all I am gonna say on that subject. Sorry for being a prick.

I understand the corn-fusion.. Even Fugi got them mixed up when he ordered them for me... Link to PR2 discussion.

_MY_ motorcycle tire experience is with the Pilot Sports (discontinued, not the HPX), the Conti RA's, and most recently with the Pilot Road 2 tires which are manufactured with the 2CT construction technology. 2CT is simply Michelin's name for what Conti calls Continuous Compound Technology. R.W. was talking about the Pilot Power 2CT - which costs as much as the Pilot Road 2CT...

Check out what is known as a spider chart on their product pages... Again, I know it's Michelin propaganda, but they are trying to identify the attributes for each of their tires for consumers so they can make a better informed decision. In this case, the spider charts are used to rate the tires performance, but when developing a tire, we use a spider chart to define the objectives... Then, when the tire is evaluated, we rate each attribute against it's target to see what compromises have been made on each tire construction. Spider charts are widely used to graphically depict Mutli-Criteria Decision Analyses...

    Pilot Road²
    Michelin Pilot Power 2CT

In addition, they've developed a chart to help describe the different tires and their targeted usages.

No worries, in it's current state, the USAF is somewhat akin to that one relative we all have. You know, the one that no one likes to talk about. I can say no more. I'm sure you understand, someone who doesn't like me might be reading this.

Well, I now have 3 tires to consider. I need a tire that will give me the performance I need to run track days & teach the AMC Sport Bike class on yet still give me some semblance of respectable mileage.

    1) Continental Road Attack
I have personal experience with this tire & I am more than happy with it. I am somewhat confused that the front wore out exactly at the same rate as the rear. I've never seen a bike do that before. Now that the tires are just about completely fried, they are starting to be less than confidence inspiring.

    2) Michelin Pilot Road 2
Glowing reveiws from a few VFRWorld types & the Michelin reputation, which unfortunately comes with the Michelin price tag.

    3) Pirellia Diable Corso III's
Endorsed by Bubba Zanetti & track tested by BZ's riding buddy. Since I know Bubba is a MSF RiderCoach & does track days himself, I'm pretty sure he knows what I'm looking for in a tire.

    KC-10 FE out...

    I should have clarified something.

I too use the DCIII, but only on the front. But since a 4th gen uses a 170 rear. The rear tire is the old Diablo Corsa.

Pirelli has phased out the old corsa, so when I switch tires the rear will be a 170 Diablo Rosso with the DCIII on the front.

My front Conti Road Attack tire wore out like mad during one week of strafing runs in New Hampshire. The center section was fine, but the sides wore so much, the tire profile became trapezoidal = skiddish turn in... The rear was fine at that point... I wore the rear out in 2000 miles last season b/c I was commuting 35 miles one way to work, mostly on the highway...

Seems to me that they got the balance of the compounds wrong...

Jury is still out on the PR2's, me likes 'em so far.

I have been using Conti Road Attacks for two years. Great grip, confidence inspiring and great millage. I have tried a lot of tires in the last 10 years, this is the first tire that really impresses me.

    I loved the Conti RA's at 500 miles, 2800 miles, 4000 miles....

It was the last 2000 miles (4500 miles and beyond) that were not fun.

I found them confidence inspring from the get-go, very predictable, stable. I got 9500 miles out of the front and 6500 on the rear(due to a flat change). I was about 1500 miles late on the front as they started to push a wee bit which seemed to raise the heart rate on occasion! Never any headshake.
New tires next week - likely Conti's again. Great wet and dry traction, great mileage, decent price.

what is the "chicken stripe" I've seen mentioned a few times in this thread? I've got battalax rear and i don't like it at all. And if you look at the tread there is about a 2" wide flat spot down the center then turns sharply and flat on the sides to the edge. Did i answer my own question the center flat spot is the chicken stripe?

the last 1/4" - 3/8" on the very outer edge of the tire is what they call the chicken strip.

I just installed my second set. The first set I put over 8500 miles on.
The last 1000 were a bit sketchy. I really like them though.
grip, wear and cost are all very good.

I probably should have replaced them due to the awkward wear on the front at 4500 miles.

I was getting 6000 miles from the Michelin Pilot Sports before they went out of production.

I ride mostly secondary road twistys, avoid highways when possible. Maybe colder riding conditions up here help with wear??? They are worn right to the edges but not eaten up!

All right. I am no longer happy with the RAs. I have under 4k on them and just ran out of tread in the middle today. I expected much more from these tires. I mostly commute, but have put lots of carving miles and a couple of slab trips on them since new in April. I do not do burnouts. I really wanted more miles from them.

Next experiment--Pilot Power front and Pilot Road rear.

aHA! My suspicions were correct. And it follows the "independent tests" posted by Michelin on tread life.

    Best Wet Grip

    1st Michelin® Pilot® Road 2

    2nd Pirelli Diablo Strada
    3rd Metzeler Roadtec Z6
    4th Continental Road Attack
    5th Dunlop D220 ST
    6th Bridgestone BT-021
    7th Bridgestone BT-020

    Longest Tread Life

    1st Michelin® Pilot® Road 2
    2nd Bridgestone BT-020
    (tie) Dunlop D220 ST
    4th Pirelli Diablo Strada
    5th Bridgestone BT-021
    (tie) Metzeler Roadtec Z6
    (tie) Continental Road Attack

*Compared to the six leading competitors’ tires in the same market segment. Tests conducted by CERM (Centre d’Essais Routiers Mècaniques) in 2006, using tire sizes 120/70 ZR 17 and 180/55 ZR 17.

    Michelin North America Motorcycle Tires

Are you planing on using the dual compound Michelins or the original single compound tires? I'm very interested in finding out if the Michelin PR2's are worth the MUCH HIGHER cost over my current Pirelli Diablo Strada rubber. I'm satisfied with the traction and awesome warm up time of the Stradas especially when I'm riding in the winter (35-50F) but the mileage of the center tread pattern could be better. Dual compound on the strada might fit the bill...or maybe the new Pirelli Angel/Demon tires...

I'm an aggressive rider--went been through two sets of Diablo Stradas in 4,000 miles. Switched to Conti RA's today and immediately had the decel head shake. Never had as much as a twitch on my '03 VFR until today--I can probably live with it for now, but I'll be looking for something else....

Wait, you went through 2 rear tires in 4,000 miles total or 4,000 miles per tire???
