    Moto GP @ INDY impressions.

I've been back for a week since my trip up to INDY.

I took my VF800 Interceptor RWB up from Florida. 2,500 miles round trip. Camped in lot 2C and really had a blast. Unexpected surprises, shaking hands with Marco in the garage area, going to the fairgrounds for the Grand National dirt track race and seeing Willy G, Kenny Roberts, and generally having a great time. The races were great. I won't waste $$ on reserved seating next time. General admission is just fine. The camping was tolerable even had showers. Over all it was great. I recommend it!
The stand out surprise of the weekend was taking a parade lap around the course. What a thrill that was. I've done Daytona twice and now the INDY Moto GP/F1 course.

I'm thinking of attending the Moto GP at Indy this summer. Is it worth the $100 entrance ticket and trip from Florida? I'd like to camp but the camping at the track seems primitive with no showers.

I was at the Honda 200 in Daytona this spring and what an event. Superpole the night before the event, 75 bike field under the lights with fireworks afterwards. AMA really did a terrific job. Daytona offers tent camping between turn 3 & 4 on the east end with decent restrooms and showers in the infield. You can pretty much view the race from where ever you want. They had a couple of jumbotrons set up which really helped.

What do you think? Worth it or not going to Indy the end of August?

Depends on how big a race fan you are I suppose.

I went last year and watched that crazy race in a hurricane. Part of the reason I went was because it was the inaugural event, and that made it a bit special.

Some reasons to go could be:

Many of us live too far from Laguna Seca to make going feasible, and that is the only other Moto gp race in the US

A chance to see the best riders in the world riding the best factory efforts.

Indy isnt a bad town, the people and the area are pretty nice.

The racetrack itself is interesting and historic.......and HUGE...but the race is run half in the infield, the sightlines could be better but remember this is a converted car track. Jumbotrons abound .

The ride up is fun from Fla. If you still own that BMW you have in your signature I would take that

The 250's!! they are soon to be no more, and thats a shame.

For a world class event where you are sure to meet lots of folks from all over the world ( I did ) it really doesnt cost that much.

    The 125s.....great racing to watch.

So there's my little bit for what its worth, as for camping, I really dont know, it probably is pretty primitive, I didnt camp out there. Hotels are plentiful around there.
Overall I would say it will be worth it, but remember this is Indiana in the late summer and the weather is hot and sometimes rainy, but if you live in Fla you know all that.
Since you have been to races before and know the drill, the real difference you may notice is the crowd is multi national, but I loved that part.

    Go!

Ya don't get to witness Nicky or Vale screaming down a straight at 180 mph, hitting the brakes, leaned over to thier knees, pushing through a stream of water running over the track in turn ONE, very often.

Raining so hard you couldn't see them coming off the last turn.

The noise under the roofs down Indy's front straight is awesome....

OH, camping is crappy, but there were showers....

    I twas there !!!
    Going back!!!!

I was there last year and I will be going again this year. Of course it helps me that I'm less than 100 miles away but I would go again even if I wasn't.

I really enjoy the track itself, whether it be MC's, Indycar, Nascar, etc. I can't speak about the camping facilities but the rest of the track is really nice.

Last year made things REALLY spectacular with the rain. They moved the race up this year to try and avoid some of that chance and get a nice sunny day.

FWIW, I actually got to ride the MotoGP track the day after the races on a Triumph Daytona..... with no speed restrictions. Its amazing.

My only complaint is that because of the design of the speedway, it is difficult to see some parts of the track, however they are some great places that you can get real close to the action.

Thanks for your replies. I've since got on to the IMS and Moto GP sites and information is there. You have to dig it out. I've got my ticket at Corner Terrace 7 and camping. The rooms are over $150/nite close in! To be expected at an event like this. Here's hoping for good weather. If you see an idiot on a RWB with a yellow helmet and Florida tag, it might be me. Give me a holla and we'll chat.
