I bought an 02 a couple months back, have only put maybe 200 miles on it so far. It currently has Metz4 tires, 120/70/zr17 on the front and 160/55/zr17 on the rear. I dont believe this is the correct rear tire size, can any of you tell me if this one is higher or wider than stock? I am not to crazy about the handling so far and its gotta be the tires. They have decent tread but the guy I bought the bike from only had it for about 2,000 miles and he said these tires were on it when he bought it, so they arent old mileage wise but are going on 3 years old. The bike only has 6,800 miles on it. Ive been off the street and riding in dirt for the last 10 years, last time I was on the street was on an FZR and I totaled it at about 105 MPH. Anyway, looking to get new tires and just wondered what the correct rear size is for a 2002. Strictly a commuter during the week and tourer on the weekend, no twisties or aggressive riding for me anymore.
what kind of ridding do you do? conti road attcks are highly rated for VFR for a little softer tire power pilots are good, I run a metzler M-1 rear and M-3 front but milage is not so good but proformace is, so always a trade off.
Commute and tour with the wife and givi trunk. Dont ride hard or fast, just tour, 36 yrs old and two kids and already had a brush with death while on an FZR.
I went with the Conti RA's, put them on Saturday and got 180 miles on them already. Its like a whole new ride, I am way more confident, dont seem to have to force it into the turns anymore to get over the uneven spot that my old ones had.
You are one lucky dude!! How did you manage to total a bike at 100+ mph and not get fooked up for life? Regards, Rollin
Young and dumb, the last thing I remember seeing before I saw the bunny/coon/dog/whatever it was, was 105mph, I laid it down and got off fairly easy. Shredded leather coat, bloody elbows, destroyed levis, ruptured disk in my back, broken wrist, two broken toes, and a pile of shat in my shorts. Guardrail ate the FZR.
