    Wow!

Who knew that KC-10FE went under the surname "Mark Somerville" when discussing Star Trek and other 'nerd' topics.

Actually, I'm glad to get a review from a fan. I was worried it may not be good. I'll just watch 'Wrath of Kahn" for the 100th time.

Hey, everyone else thinks it's great, so maybe you shouldn't cheat yourself, but the folks in Tai Chi class who enjoyed it were comparing it to Star Wars (and I don't think that they were talking about IV-VI ).

    Carry on as you were.

I'm (kinda') sorry to bump this up again but a web site subtitled "News For Nerds, Stuff That Matters" (Slashdot.org) has created a poll on the subject, and I like the conversation that has gone on as a result (though at least two folks seem to be trolling): Slashdot Poll | What Did You Think Of The ...

Tons of insight among these many, many geeks (this website is pretty weighty in terms of members). The poll itself is so far over 50% positive (divided between "Fascinating", "It's Trek, Jim, But Not As We Know It", and "I Have Been.. And Always Shall Be.. A Fan", some mocking, with negative reactions divided on a finer scale (I of course opted for "I May Throw Up On You." though I was torn by the option "It's Brain Is Gone!".
The comments are where it's really at though if you want to see it torn down, put together sideways and spun around.

    Carry on as you were.

There are some really great sites where almost everyone agrees on everything. Just look for Harley Chatrooms on the net.

What we need IMO is some leathers or skidlids that are Trek oriented. First though, we need to take a poll, then form committes and several study groups to choose an official fashion coordinator for VFRers. I would suggest a sort of sort to see who is talking most about dressing for success mototcyclewise to narrow the field and retain the democratic unity we have established here.

Its funny how emotive this new Trek movie has been, was just chatting to a 20 year Trek Fan club member friend and he forgave the divergences loving that the movie was different and not as predictably dull as a couple of the older movies. He also commented he's very amused at how much this movie has shaken the normally composed hard core Trek Fans into fits of extreme fist waving and mouth frothing rages.

On another note below Aussie Movie review site has similar balance to Slashdot with most rating from the either the Zero end or 5 Stars end and very few rating it in between.

    I'll start:
I found this at a church rummage sale on Saturday:
    Borg.jpg
Not sure any more whether I'm hippie, Borg, or squid.
Once I sort out my VFR's reg/rect and get off the PC I may find the answer (#3).

    Cheers

The logical plan, were I to speak for Mr.Spock, not to be confused with Doc Spock, or course of action would be to fix your bike first. Riding bikes is waaaay more fun than dressing up in funny costumes and sitting in movie theaters listening to half wits who can't follow the plot because they are stuffing thier mouths with five buck a pop popcorn. Then save the other stuff for some really crappy cold day when no one is watching you. ;)

I won't even get into the ones who sit in the front rows and fart and elbow each other while trading inside yuks..

I think some of the die-hard old school trek fans may be missing the point of this movie. The trek universe has been collapsing in on itself black hole style for years. TOS fans and TNG fans have battled back and forth for years about which is better to no avail. Star Wars IV-VI fans don't have to battle with I-III fans cause most everyone hated the new ones PC style. In my opinion this movie was made so that regular people who don't give a damn about what the hell red matter is would come out and actually PAY to see a Star Trek movie. When is the last time that happened? Hell, I like Trek and I haven't gone out to see one at the movies in years after the multiple let downs from the TNG movies. This movie may be the one that keeps Trek from dying and brings new fans to the Trek universe. If you are that anal about trek, keep rewatching the old VHS tapes. I have seen some bargains on them on ebay. Watch out for the tribbles.

Not a bad point at all.

The only (prior) Trek movie that really disappointed me was First Contact. It was the time travel cheat that let me down since I wanted to know how they defeated the Borg and then of course they didn't, except for the bogus time travel device.
As to costumes: in my pic I'm wearing leather riding gear that I bought last weekend. I was incredibly lucky at that particular rummage sale.
Also I'm riding my (Honda) PC while waiting for the Reg/rect, so I'm all happy

And as for the bad audience problem: this movie was an important one so I went on a weekday night after the release, last show, that's how I roll (that or a school day matinee).

If you are careful to choose unpopular times, you can own the theatre.

The audience was sparse and rocked very quietly, the film sucked loud and brightly.

    Cheers

I think figured out who you are. Please correct me if I am in error. Are you not the guy who stuffed a Valkyrie engine with a blower in his PC?

Hmmm, and here I am looking at rebuilding my old PC engine when I could really be farking with people's heads. Bad enough that I can blow away most vehicles (though not necessarily most bikes) on something that looks like a scooter from behind, but I've been advised that even boring out the cylinders a little will add stress to the drive shaft, which is supposed to be not such a good idea.

    So, nope, not me.
I must say about the PC that I'm selling a BMW K-75 and keeping the PC for my luggage/touring bike since I think that it's more fun to ride, though it's not full of sweet juicy evil like the VFR, so I need that too.

    Aaaaaand the thread is de-railed.

I watched Star Trek when I was in high school, loved it then. This was a great revival of the characters I like, a little bit personified, but I really loved the movie, 2 hours went in 20 minutes. I will own this movie. Not enough good SiFi movies out there. The day the earth stood still was a tragedy; the original from 1951 was great, the remake sucked

Any fears of derailing a perfectly good Trek thread should be assuaged. Do I have a deal for you. For your new VFR I have, for a measly 300 USA American made bucks an almost brand new out of the box set of DeLuxe Ventura luggage that with a couple of new brackets will turn that VFR into a true Trekker.

    Gotta say, Krauser bags on a Beemer aint shabby..Got a 79 R100RS..

I always thought that PC's from the rear looked less like scooters, and more like some of the bon-bon poppers I see on the back of Gold Wings and certain other baggers of American (sort of) persuasion.

    "Bling long and prosper."

Well you do know what I like. But I need to get a reg/rect that works, sell the K-75, and put a new air filter into the PC (tomorrow I hope).
I've been told that it looks like a scooter, but I think that mine (with most of the plastic gone) looks more like a "WTF is that", especially with the ski bag (long weapons and such) strapped to the right side and big martial arts target on the back seat.

Back on the Star Trek thread: whom among us actually wanted to see Kirk act like a douche when he showed up to cheat on the Kobayashi-maru?

I for one thought that that cheating on the test without dishonor was an okay golden age sci fi element in the back story we all know, but I wasn't told that he (Kirk) acted like a jerk at the time... Shatner portrayed Kirk as a lot of things, (Kirk is a well rounded character) but a douche wasn't one of them.

Too bad I can't sell the K-75 luggage to pay for viffer luggage.
    Ahem: anyone?

Maybe when the R/R shows and the K is gone, you could paint the PC to look like Jabba The Hut.

Ain't seen the movie yet. I'll wait until it hits the DVD circuit. Following the tenets of the Ferengi Rules of Aquisition, I popped for a 40" big screen for my digs.
