I just bought 1998 VFR few days ego and today I noticed small oil droplets on front fender outside edge and upper left fairing near turn signal.
    1.Checked break hoses-fine no leak
2.Checked clutch fluid reservoir and cable-fine no leak
3.Have not checked the oil cooler yet.

I am perplexed if any oil leaks from front how does it leak on front upper fairing.Should it naturally be pushed back by the wind? I just can't understand how I get oil on front left fairing and fender.I suspect oil cooler leak or cooler hoses or loose oil filter but filter is way low in the bike....

help I am little lost...Is there a breeder hose that I am not aware of...??
    Thanks guys

Maybe a recent ride behind something that was leaking? Was the area you mentioned clean when you bought it and then the oil turned up, or did you notice the oil out of the blue without knowing if or how long it was there?

I'm not familiar with that bike, so all I can suggest is cleaning it all real good, take it for a ride or two, and see if it returns.

    Checked the fork seal -fine

Haven't had the time to check the oil cooler.I suspect it is the source.I think it squirts out and ends up on the fender and the wind splashes on the fairing.

I did wash and polish the bike before noticing this and it happened twice already after each ride.No oil when parked.

    I am down:confused:

Did you just visually check the fork seals or did you compress the forks to see if there was leaking? My seals on my 93 looked fine but when I loaded the bike in my trailer and compressed them down with my tie downs I could see oil leaking.

    Regards,
    Rollin

That would be a bad leak if it's fork oil. I have some fairly leaky seals, and I've never seen a hint of fork oil anywhere. I only know because the compression/damping softens up over time, and I top them up once a season. If it were leaking fork oil that bad, I'd think you'd have a very soft suspension within a few days.

Guys you won't believe what that mysterious oil was!! I looked every fking source on the bike and nothing!!! finally I had to mentally go over all possibilities and BINGO

OIL came from parking lot ceiling drip (lots of industrial equipment above) where I had parked twice at work.
I looked the ground and it was oily.Since then I am parking away from that drip and the bike is clean!
Funny how that got me worked up and turned out not the bike at all. Thanks all for suggestions! I love this forum!!

Atleast its not a car where the taste of oil and atf is different. but then again the smell too.

Check to hard line flanges on the oil cooler, may be the o rings. if not a possible small hole in the cooler it self.

I would suspect the fork seal is wasted. Check 'em!
