So I am considering turning my newly acquired Vf500f into a street fighter. That is, after I figure out this whole shifting issue.

I want to run a single exhaust to it, but i am having one hell of a time finding a single can, or even any aftermarket exhaust pipes for that mater. Any ideas?

I also want to do the rear suspension mod and the f2 wheels front and back, but that's just a matter of finding someone willing to give up their wheels on craigslist.

Let me know if you have any Ideas for headlights and new gauge clusters.

Not trying to be rude, being serious, what is the point of a street fighter, as in, what are pro's about turning a regular bike into a street fighter?

I'm pretty sure it was originally just to have a street legal stunt bike, but personally I just REALLY like the looks of them. I'm not at all intending to turn my vf500f into a stunter haha.

True VFRs are highly respected in sportbike history for their unique sound and racing lineage but I wouldn't go as far as to say the vf500 is legendary. It's pretty much a naked anyway with an upper fairing. IMOP

The 500 would look pretty badasss as a streetfighter but i think a round headlight would look better than the one you have a link to. you will need a big headlight to hide all the wires in.. there are a lot of ther behind that fairing. definitely do the F2 wheel conversion! i've been thinking about doing that to my other one so if you finish it post some pics!

dude it's your bike do as you want with it, but there is alot of VF/VFR's supporter's here and as it look's this might just start up another fuss, but the VF500 miniceptor is known around the world as being a fun flickable bike and believe me when i saw i think you will change your mind when you start figuring out the cost of upgrading these bikes! post some picture 's of this ole girl.

I bought an 86 miniceptor in pretty rough shape about 3 weeks ago and revived it from the dead. I spent two weeks making it run good and rebuilding it how I wanted it.
I too love the streetfighter look so thats the way I built it.

Most people go streetfighter as an easy and cheap way out to rebuilding their recked bike. (my front fairing was just fine I just didn't like the way it looked).
but let me be the one to tell you dude It was very far from easy. honda ran so much crap up front in that fairing with so much extra wiring that it was anything but easy to complete.

I'll post up some pics if you want and I am also an ase mechanic so I will be happy to answer any questions you may have on your build. good luck man:thumbsup:

If the 500 is in tough shape, no reason not to have at 'er.

If it's in decent shape or easily restorable, I'd go that route instead.

Whatever you do, don't go cutting up perfectly good plastic and bits. Offer it for sale and then get some beat up parts to chop on....there's so little of the "good stuff" left for these old girls....

But, I think the vf500 is going to make a poor looking "streetfighter".......

I totally agree on both accounts if your parts are in good shape, not cracked, mounting tabs are there, etc, then by all means please bring another vf500 back on the streets for everyone to see.

if your bike is already in shambles then do what you want and build a bike thats your own and stand out of the crowd.
but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONT PUT THAT FUGLY CHEAP HEADLIGHT THING ON YOUR VF!!!

the vf500 is a great platform for a builder bike, light, nimble, and decent power for a 500. unfortunately you cant just go out and buy what you need for it, your at the mercy of ebay, craigslist, other vf owners, etc.
luckily I found a whole parts bike on craigslist that had everything mine was lacking to make it decent and drivable again. yes I went streetfighter but didn't destroy any vf parts except the wiring harness which I have a spare one of.
I kept everything you need to turn it back in to a stock bike. and still have boxes of parts and what not from the parts bike and take offs from mine.

bottom line buddy is build a bike you'll be proud to be riding around. rock what you got, customize all your rides despite what other people think you should do. If you love it and have a blast riding/driving it then thats all that matters.

have fun dude. let me know how your build turns out. I've only had mine on the road for 2 weeks and everyone I meet seems to love it so dont be afraid to do what you want.

just remember have fun doing it... and if you have a good part your gonna chop up try and find one thats in a little worse off shape sell off the good one just like great white said.

but have fun....if you were gonna do it to an 86 vfr I would put a pox on you and your grandchildren.......but even then it's ypour ride

is there anything in peticular you've been searching for matt? I've been following your thread on your 86 resto, good work btw but I do have quite a bit left over after my build. so let me know
I just threw a bare frame, dented gas tank, and a set of white wheels in the scrap metal bin at work, (they were too big and heavy to want to deal with selling them on ebay).
I would dig them out quick and sell em cheap to anyone that wants em but speak soon or forever hold your peace
