Well starting May 9th I'm going to be pretty much free to go where ever, when ever. Honesty I'll go just about anywhere anyone else can go. I just said "out west" because I'd like to ride out to the Rockies and enjoy the scenery and also get some great photography.

This weekend I'm going to be doing a big maintenance (5,000 miles since March 3rd!) and try to get the bike ready for the open road. I'm trying to put together a decent toolkit, too.

How about you guys just keep this thread updated with when some of you guys may be able to go. Doesn't have to be but for a few days, or could be over a week if schedule allows.

    In search of a curve

As a North Louisiana VFR pilot. I try to make at least two trips per year to your hallowed ground. It is the nearest and best locale for twisties ( the reason for riding) I love the roads of Northwest ( and north central) Arkansas, and thankfully they are only a few short hours away.
I am always amazed on my (mostly) weekend trips, that I may see 300 other motorcyclist in two days. Not amazed that I see 300 bikes, but that approx 292 of them will be cruisers (Harleys) or Gold Wings. Where are all the sport bike riders? I know the Wingers just love to ride ans I expect see them, I had a 2006 GW myself ( ground the footpegs down on Mt Magazine) but the cruiser guys....? they have no idea how much fun they are missing easing around those curves, careful not to lean too far over.....
    Oh well!

You have to remember that a large number of riders these days are old farts like myself, but old farts who didn't start riding until late in life. But yeah, they just don't know what they are missing at all... :)

Give us a holler when you're heading up this way again.

    Fasttimmy,
lots of cruisers for sure! Try coming through in Oct, when 100,000 cruisers come rolling through NW Ark for Bikes, Blues, and BBQ!!
In the meantime, our small but growing group of Viffers and other sport riders will continue to spread the word on the Twisted Mecca that is North Arkansas!
    Come see us!

Twisted Mecca indeed! my only problems are time and money...not enough of either. I really thought I would be riding your way by now but whenever I had time....Monsoon season erupted. We have had some rain.
But I will be there soon.
Headed to Staunton VA in June (21-25) for STAR - MSTA national Rally.

    Old Fart

Hey, I am an Old Fart myself... Been riding since about 1970 - 11 yrs old
on a Honda Sport 50 - now 16 motorcycles later - No cruiser for me.
I couldn't even be happy on the Wing.
No prob with the cruiser guys, if they aren't holding up traffic.
My neighbor and good friend has a new Fat Boy ( that he parks IN the house)
Two wheels are better than 4 ( most of the time)

    Keep smiling

I think he means the Cycle Gear in Little Rock. They're having a big sale tomorrow (Saturday, May 16th). A set of Pirelli Diablos for $189........

If you'd like to meet up and ride Sunday I think the weather is supposed to be absolutely super. I'd REALLY like to ride Hwy 123 again... and again and again and again

Just a side note: I just replaced my OEM Metzeler M4s with some of the Diablos that were on sale at Cycle Gear and although I don't expect them to last long they're MUUUUCH stickier than the Metzelers.

I had never had a TRUE sport tire before these Diablos, always had a sport touring tire of some kind. I heard people say "sport tires stick like glue" but now I understand what that means! They definitely give you a huge boost in confidence in the bike's road holding and precision....... which is good and bad - I can see how a person could easily become over confident and attempt to defy physics.... and that usually hurts

I think a group of us are going to hitch up the ponies and ride over to Eureka with the wives Sunday (17th)...at a speed which will avoid elbow jabs and purple knurples. Oh well, better than not riding at all, kind of...

JD, Sorry man, didn't check the mail earlier. Ended up riding a new road out of Decatur West to Siloam, back by 43 through Maysville. A little slow, but nice roads and an incredible day.
My battery died in Siloam (been acting up for a couple of weeks) but Wal-Mart actually had the exact Battery for the VFR. Running strong again!
We'll catch you next time, I've got your #.
