yes you are reading it correct. the 98-99's have no o2 sensors, no cat's, and larger diameter pipes. if you can find one in good condition at a resonable price they are a good way to go. i dont really trust any of these unless i see them in person, being that they are atleast ten years old. i already made up my mind, im going to get the motads in the 98-99 variety, being that my o2 sensors have already been eliminated.

woot. I am seriously considering these. Just want to make sure they sound alright. I dont want this to do the thing the chevy exhausts do, when they go from V8 to V4 mode (it sounds horrible)

Why not just a slip on?

if you have to ask, then its not for you...
some people just dont care that much,
and some people are never satisfied...
    just leave your bike alone.

I really only want to replace my headers because of the rusting. Damn bike is spotless, so of course the first thing people say when I show it to them is "you got some rust there".

Well thanks, genius, I didn't notice before you pointed it out.

    - Since I took this photo I got a Sargent seat with the red piping, which definitely looks a lot hotter than the stocker, but haven't taken a good shot of it yet.

I also have a 178 degree temp fan switch and some exhaust wrap to see if I can put an end to this veefer heat, once and for all... This is going to be a fun project...

Ps your bike looking great wetzelskid just get those headers done she'll be finished!

It looks like you and I have the same 2 Brothers high mount. Mine is really loud. I don't like it. Is yours loud?

I wouldn't say REALLY loud- I have some friends with modded Busa's that are so loud that if I don't plug my ears when they go past I have painful ringing for a few minutes, and I let my friend ride my bike once and it was no where near that...

But it's WAY louder than his Kawa ZZR1200.

I've come to love the way it sounds though. I wear really comfy high tech ear plugs for long trips (sometimes short ones too) anyway.

IN OTHER NEWS. Tomorrow I am taking the bike to the shop and taking off the headers to have them ALUMINUM CERAMIC COATED by Connecticut Coating in East Hartford. I looked at some of the stuff they do and it is phenomenal- looks like chrome, doesn't turn blue, is WAY harder, and doesn't flake. I will take pictures of before and after of the header to share with you guys- it's gonna run me about $130.

The stock '98-99 front header is only about $400 but looking at that rust I'd guess you could have it jet hot coated for $150 and it will last longer than the bike.

FINALLY got my headers done up and put back on.

UNBELIEVABLE difference. I took some photos of the rust when I took them off but forgot my camera when I went to put it back together so I'll just have to share photos with the plastics on :p.

Actually I don't have the camera with me so I guess I'll have to post the photos tomorrow or something. I'll get them up here so you guys can see them- they came out SO GOOOOOOOOOOOOOD.

Also, the bike feels a lot better power-wise. I dunno if it's better heat transfer or just better flow because the pipes aren't all rusty inside... but it's noticeably better.

im glad you finally got that done wetzelskid:thumbsup:
cant wait to see some pics... ive got mine done in header wrap and sprayed black. i love the look and i dont ever have to worry about cleaning them either lol.

PS since these pics I've touched up those few spots that stretched out the paint. Also these pics came off my cell so somewhere along the line the were rotated if any one know how to rotate and repost that'd be great.

have you ever thought about just repacking the muffler? it could probably use it... and would be much cheaper and easier than get a whole new slip on...

Alright, finally got a chance to take some photos (just moved into a new apartment) so I am going to share them now. Still can't believe how great the headers came out!

The bike is a little dirty because it's been raining here on and off for what feels like years and therefore I've just been riding, not spending too much time cleaning.

You can also check out the whole photo set on my Flickr- starts with the oldest pictures of the bike, from last August, and goes to the pics with the headers off and ends with them back on.

And YES, my clip on holder is zip-tied in place... I lost the bolt when I had it apart for a week (only one I lost >_<) and haven't had a chance to replace it yet.
