After getting my water pump replaced I was looking around and I noticed a small leak around the gear shift cover. Just a couple of drops on the ground after I ride.

I was missing the bottom most right side bolt and I thought I could just put a new one in there and the leak would stop but it didn't.

I'm ordering some gaskets from Bikebandit.com but I want to make sure I cover my bases so I thought I'd list what I'm planning on getting and see if I'm missing anything here's the list so far.

From Schematic Parts View of the LEFT CRANKCASE COVER:
    drawing numbers:
    4,9,17,18

Anything else you guys think I should get while I'm at it?

    Thanks,
    Damon

looks like you have it covered. I'll skip the obvious warnings since you obviously know how to change a gasket. Good luck.

clean your chain and drive sprocket area. Also clean the rubber which the chain will occasionally ride on, the top of your rear lower frame, (forget what the technical name is atm). When changing the water, its possible that some found its way down in and around that area... the oil could be just dirty or oil ridden water. Replacing a $6.00 gasket is a good move. well done there, might as well clean it out relly good to ensure after you put it on, you can take it for another 15 min ride, get it good and hot, and the stop and shine a flash light down in there... makes it easier than watching the concrete. :)
    Good troubleshooting.

I did that cleaning already and I've ridden it a few times. I can't detect a change in the oil level after even 100 miles so I don't think it's a very bad leak I'm just getting tired of messing up the driveway.

    Have the same problem

    Hey

I have the same problem with my bike.I opened the left cover to look straight at the chain and then I saw the oil coming on top of my waterpump working it way down under the pump and then dripping on my exhaust (I have 4 in 1 exhaust) then to the ground.I am sure it is coming from the oil hole inside the cover witch feeds the heads. It is not the water pump and it just dripps when the bike is hot.If anyone else has figure this out and stopped the leak. Please let me know how else I will try it in the morning. This is so driving my crazy  .But I will post if this works out.

    Best regards

    Gunnar

chain lube then? clean the chain good, sprockets, etc. also have you noticed your clutch feeling a little spongy? perhaps a leak from the secondary clutch cylinder? also, could be a minor ding in your clutch rod, which allows oil to wipe across the seal everytime you pull in the clutch. Also could be your clutch rod case seal is in backwards. I advise change the oil a few times, and ensure you get it back to being a nice golden pankcake syrup color. then run it again, and look for more leaks after a good 30 min ride. if all fails, and you can not find the leak, persue investigating using a heavier weight oil.

    Chost you are good

    Hey

You might be on something there. When I pull the clutch handle the slave pushes the cover away enough that a oil can slip out.We are just talking about 5-6ml of oil dripping after a ride. And I thought the clutch was slipping because when I acceleratide easy the needle went up till I hit the 7000 rpm or more then I tried to give more gas and then it rushed its way up to 8500 rpm and worked its way back down.So I think it is time to check the valves. But I will try to make something to hold the slave and see if the leak stops. Will report when I figure this out.Can I use heat Silicone (yeahh yeahh I know not the best to do) but it can expand with the clutch slave. Thanks for the help.P.S. I don“t use chain lube I use chain wax+I am using 10W40 oil so I think that I will not go heavier.

    Best regards

You're welcome. I found this situation on a friends bike once, so we got lucky that you could have a similar issue.

Ya know, I, not 100% sure with your year model, but I found this problem on my bike, and I fixed it the same way you are thinking... here are a few pics of the secondary brace I made. When I reported this to Honda, I got a letter back stating "thanks for the information", and that they agree the mounting in this area needed to be redesigned, subsequently they did for later models.. blah blah blah, they arent gonna do anything about it, cause its discontinued.

The silicone wont work, only because, even though it seems like a small area, and a small amount of fluid thats moving, its actually quite a good bit of pressure. The silicone may hold if the leak is in a lucky spot for you, but I got my doubts. go for the brace first.

Could be the Gearshift Switch oil seal leaking. It's under the hexagonal cover behind the oil line banjo above the slave cylinder.

Take the cover off. The switch should be devoid of oil. If it's not, remove the switch and replace the seal behind it. The seal is a little hard to pull out (a dentist's pic works well). And you may need an impact screw driver to remove the phillips screws from the cover.

The only caveat to checking for a leak is that I had to remove the oil line to get the damn hexagonal cover off. And you have to remove the carbs to get the oil line off. Lot of work for a small oil seal.

Wonder what the stp oil leak repair will do to the clutch plates...

Wouldn't do it if I were you.

    Hey Guys

    Hey

I have tried every thing I can to stop this leak and last I think I have found it.It is not the gearswitch switch beacause that sits upon the cover and there is no oil leak coming from the top of the cover. But Mason45 your were almost right beacause the gasket witch is for gearshift pin it self think leaks beacause the leak has been come from that area. But like I say that I am not 100% sure of it but will check it better in the morning. And Deepdish does your bike run because I have seen in lot of forums that you know a lot about chemicals witch stops oil leaks, water leaks and some other leaks thanks for trying to help but I will just change the gaskets. Thanks goes out to Chost and Mason45.And yeaahh after I tried to fix the problem the leak stopped dripping from the water pump and is now starting to drip were the gearshift pin comes out of the cover.

    Best regards

    Gunnar
