Don't take it too hard Crusty, I'm looking forward to seeing it. At least you didn't go all out and pick a username and avatar from a movie.

    D'oh!

    Going tonight to see it.

    <--- Trekkie fanboi.

Can't wait to see how it's been "done" by a non-trek guy. I've heard good things and bad things.

Will post a full review tomorrow.

For the sake of the rest of VFRW, I won't post a full review - just a few talking points...

Overall, I was impressed - it was well done, and there was plenty of "eye-candy" visual effects... The star studded cast played their roles to perfection. It was action packed.

My biggest gripe was that they tried to hard to modernize the "look" of the ship... The ship in the original TV series (and even the first few movies) looks like a clunker compared to the "older" ship from this movie.

I could also discern cues from LOST (my other televised addiction) that obviously came from J.J. Abrams, the director of both this movie and the TV show. Time travel, Egyptian hieroglyphs on the bulkheads, and the monster that chased Kirk even resembled the monster from Cloverfield. Originality ain't what it used to be.

Without giving anything away, I have to say that I was disappointed with the relationship between two of the characters, and how the female character acted like a slut. Really not true to the Star Trek storyline (or at least any storyline that I remember).

VT, this also is my biggest gripe with "prequels." You cannot "go back" while making everything newer and shinier or even changing the character traits.
