Do yourself a favor and go search the frankenbike threads on VFRD. There are other options besides the '51 forks. I just got a set of 900RR forks to put on mine(with an F3/17" front wheel).

Also, look up my 86 700 project on VFRD. I've got a 900RR(5.5") wheel in the back, with a VF500F hub. Clearance is tight, but it clears. I'll be running 120/180 Pirelli Diablos on that bike. :thumbsup:

ps - my 700 has a Fox twin clicker on it already, and the 900RR forks have RaceTech internals! :biggrin:

I have a custom machined 3rd gen countershaft sprocket cover to replace the '86 part with. The 3rd gen also used a mechanical speedo drive. :thumbsup:

I for some strange reason that fails, I have an Acewell gauge with a magnetic speedo pickup.

 

now i feel even worse :frown: so you machined a 3rd gen counter sproket to fit over the front sproket?? i was thinking of useing a hall sensor

 

No, machined the sprocket cover. The part that the clutch slave also bolts too.

I'd really look at the geometry of the RC front end before you jump in. The offset is going to increase the trail and you may not be able to dial the handling in to anything reasonable. I put a RC front end on my 1000r and am now switching back to stock. The F2-3-4/900rr may be a better option, I haven't checked the offset numbers for those though.

 

If it makes you feel any better My bike came with a fox twin clicker too and I only paid $300 for the bike. :smile:

Hey Matt, I know a guy from another forum who has a 900RR rear wheel. Let me know if you're interested(this would let you install a 180 rear tire!), I can get you into contact with him.

i saw on your other thread about the f4i swing arm have you figured out if this is possible??? i was thinking more like the 900RR

 

I decided to just brace the stock arm for now. I'm sure the wheel would be under $100, plus shipping, but let me check with him. It's neon green in color.

I'm sure it can be done, but it will take some machine work. Do you consider that a pain?

 

Also, I pm'ed the guy with the wheel, he'll probably get back to me later today. You can use the 900RR wheel in the stock swinger.

ill think on it! seb need to ask you a few questions about fork lenght the stock 700 for from the top to the centre line of the axle is 33 inch's rc51 forks are 28 & 5/8's and 900RR forks are 29 inch's what im asking with the two forks options i've given can i make up the loss of fork hieght with a tad stiffer fork spring??



i figured the only other person that who would know would be sebspeed as he's working on the same bike

 

I would think losing four inches, even with stiffer springs, would leave you open for disaster.At some point you may need to do some aggressive braking. But the question is, do I have 4 inches to give on the stock set? Because if you do it shouldn't be a problem right?
