Love your projects! More Power! Would you sell the stock rear intake cam?

Very sorry, but no, I don't wish to sell the stock cams(at least not at this time). They are very low mileage parts and so I would only sell as a set anyway.

    Thank you for the comments!

I set the carbs in the bike yesterday so I could cut the new Accel wires to length. Looks like I'll have plenty left over, I got a set of blue 8mm wires for a V8 auto application, so there's 8 wires and it looks like I'll get 2 VF wires out of each auto wire! Plus I have the yellow 8.8mm Accel wires that came in the coil kit, so there will be plenty to go around if anyone else wnats to upgrade their spark wires.

You could also get the dyna coils I got the set meant for a v65 magna for my v45 magna and they worked great. They also came with wires that were plenty long for any application.

So, I recieved my Megacycle Stage 1 cams yesterday afternoon... I had to change my pants... :D

Not sure yet if I want to put them in now or keep moving on so I can ride the bike this year, then install them next winter... decisions...

They aren't really very hard to install, unless you want to degree them. Did you get the hardened rockers as well?

They should only take a day, maybe 2 if you go slow to install. Go do it.

    Do it .

    no. Just do it.

Beautifully done project. Makes me want to mint out my 83. I raced it at Loudon (and other tracks) in 83 and 84, put it in storage until two years ago, brought it out and have been riding it ever since.

Wow, I'm willing to bet money that you rode alongside my bike way back then. The original owner raced at Loudon also!

I do believe they need to be degreed. Do you have the wheels to do that?

I didn't get the rocker arms, I bought the cams from a private seller who only had the cams.

I'm thinking that since mine have under 3000 miles on them, and since I'm doing the oil mod now, maybe I don't need to do the arms right away...

Absolutely, I might be able to take a couple pics of the manual for you. The book shows where the harness goes.

Or are you talking about chasing individual wires?

Start a thread with pics of where you're at now, and we can probably guide you along!

Do you know who owned and raced the bike back then? I raced mine in AAMRR and CCS. I ran it at Loudon, Pocono, Summit Point, Bridgehampton, and Daytona. I didn't go to AMA until 85.

I never did the oil mod however I always ran synthetic and was told I wouldn't need to.

I'd have to go look in my papers, I might still have the name somewhere. It was a New Hampshire title...

They don't "need" to be, but for best power, or to set where the power comes in, they should be. You can get a degree wheel at most automotive stores. You'll also need a dial indicator for the cams. Now it would be good to get a performance book describing how to degree cams. You'll need to check the front cams and then reset everything ( I didn't the first time and almost lost my mind trying to get them set!) to do the rear cams. Once you have all the #s you can decide what you want to do.

You rockers should be ok, they probably don't have much, if any, wear to them.

Thanks! I have a dial indicator, but I'll have to do some more homework on how to set the cams up. Sounds more like a project for next winter...
