    Hi guys,

Picked up my VFR08 last Saturday and what a sweet ride. Sunday ride was awesome. However, I went for a spin just now, and the engine felt different. I know I'm very new to the bike so I want ask if you guys can confirm that at 5000 RPM the speed is around 75MPH in highest gear?

What do you mean the engine felt different? Some more details would be helpful.

Hard to describe, it felt and sounded a little bit rougher. Maybe I'm imagining things

Is this a new bike that you are just breaking in? Just for clarification purpose I must ask you if you know how the VFR's VTEC engine works.

At @6800 rpm's an extra 2 valves per cylinder will be engaged causing the bike to become noticeably louder and more powerful similar to a 2 stroke hitting it's powerband. Is this what you were feeling?? FYI....The VTEC engagement is not a very smooth transition.

    Regards,
    Rollin

Yes, it's a brand new bike. It's not the VTEC kicking in, I'm pretty sure I was just paranoid. If 75mph @ 5K rpm in top gear is about right, then my bike is just fine.

75 mph is right..... Get some earplugs and keep the rpm's at 4000(+).....Cruising 5k to 6k......At some point you have to stop, and starting over will put you below the 4k mark till you get to 2nd gear ........Monk

75 mph at 5K in 6th gear is right. A little hyper vigilance as to how the bike sounds/feels when it is new is pretty normal. These engines are great. Enjoy it!

Basically 5K is my reference. 4th at 5K, is 55mph, 5th at 5k is 65mph. I don't seem to get much use of 6th. There just ain't that much strait road around here.

You are probably not imagining. I felt the EXACT same way.

From 4k to 6kish it feels very rough rolling on the gas. I've also got a prob with the vtec. Its not the 'hit' its the rattley feeling like something on the top end is um not tight.

I've got 140-odd miles on the beast and its going to the doctor Monday for exploratory surgery.

I wish I had never sold My '87 VFR700. That bike was so simple and pleasurable to ride. So far, my '08 has been nothing close to it.

I doubt anything is loose........... VTEC is just kicking in the extra valves! Yeah, it's a little uneasy to listen too at first but it will grow on you. Enjoy the rush.....!!

5k is about 70 MPH corrected, 75 MPH indicated, with stock gearing.
