New Front pads. Loud squeaking/screeching

I've spent a while searching this same issue and have read that new pads (especially good ones) make noise at times. Some bikes have it...(the squeaking noise)...some don't.

My front pads were changed by a reputable person while it was in storage. Brand New pads from Honda.

The bike makes a rythmic squeaking while riding and a louder constant squeaking as I come to a stop. It goes away during hard braking or when the brakes are hot (after heavy use).
I'm pretty sure the previous owner had cheapy pads in before I had them changed. They squeaked a little.

I have put about 1,000kms on them and they are not getting better.
I tried some bedding-in Braking and accelerating procedures but no dice.

The bike stops a HELUVA lot better now with these new squeaky pads.

brake quiet put on back side of pads and let it set up for 15 min or so, should do the trick.
also clean pad contact area of caliper real good as well.

 

I was going to try this but I could NOT get any of my sockets to fit snug on the Caliper bolts....and I have ALOT of sockets.

 

Have you checked the rotors? I thought mine were ok, untill I checked today and they have a slight taper.

 

5 possibilities

1. Your rotors are worn badly from previous bad pads, and now your new pads are having to work their way down to the grooves and such for the crappy rotors.
2. Your pads were installed incorrectly, and the caliper is now damaged..I.e. it wont release correctly
3. Your reputable person, isnt so, and forgot the disk quiet
4. Your front left break switch needs to be reset.
5. Your rotors are warped.

 

also look at manual the calipers have clips on them to help prevent this problem look to see if they are there.

Now that I read again if the squeak is rhythmic then I would think it leads more to the rotors being warped. As certain high points come around it would make the squeak at even intervals. IMO :unsure:

Got the Bike to a mechanic (for the brake problems as well as other things) and he put on a new set of pads....aftermarket ones.

The new pads from Honda that I previously installed were bad.

His reasons were that they (the brake pads) were too hard and had too much metal in them.

I don't know what brand pads he installed but they are WHISPER quiet and have a much better feel then the loud Honda ones.

...not to metion they were HALF the price!
