Not to terribly much to tell yet. This is my first street bike in about 7 years. My previous bike was a dark blue (because I couldn't find a pearl white one) 1987 VFR700 with about a trillion highway miles on it (actually about 45k). So after years of sadly watching bikes ride by while I commuted to work, I decided to hell with it, and jumped back into the bikers world with the Grey '08 Interceptor a few months ago. Sadly, from day 1 I've been frustrated with the FI problems. Won't go less than 16 mph without stalling (15mph street i live on), massive dead spot from about 4200 to 5800ish rph while commuting on the interstate (65-70mph interstate), and when the VTEC kicks in (6800-7000?) it almost feels like the something is lose in the top end of the engine. So I trolled the interwebs to see if there were some smart people out there that had already dealt with the same problems I'm having. After some looking I wound up here. So far I like the site. Thanks for having me.
Wow! Something is not right. None of those symptoms are normal (IMHO). Get thee to thy dealer for a check up.
First off, welcome! Secondly, I hope you find out what are causing those problems. I am don't terribly much about the newer bikes having never owned one myself, but even I can tell that just isn't right! Surely someone else has had the same problem though and can help you to get yours right! Good luck!
Thanks guys. I called the dealer after a few weeks and they treated me like I was the one that needed a check up, so I figured put up with it for a bit and see if it was some sort of new fangled FI break in period or something. Frankly, the more I read, the more depressed I am in my investment. This was supposed to be fun, but I haven't found any of the fun, just bike problems from mile 1. I'm calling another dealership today and going to get it checked out.
Yes! Do take it in right away. You know how sometimes you research a product on the web and you see that some people have a good experience with something and some people seem to have gotten a bad version of it? Well, this AIN'T that! This VFR is a winner. It is a superb machine. Something simple is wrong with yours and it will be night and day when it is cleared up. You won't remember much of this frustration when it is put right. Stand up for the service you deserve. Tell them exactly what happens and when it occurs. Mr. Honda will make it the great machine it was born to be.
Well, called a different shop, and the service manager actually took the time to talk with me about the problem, and wants to get it into the shop and take it for a spin to see if he can better clarify my problem comments to him. I didn't want to cover the bike for the two weeks til they can look at it, so not sure what to do. If something is really wrong, I don't want to have it fail at 70mph on the interstate, so I guess I'll put it away until I can get it in the shop on the 11th.
Welcome to the site. I'm sorry to hear about your problems, particularly with a brand new machine. As has been said, you will not regret your purchase once the gremlins are worked out, as the VFR truly is a superb machine. Ride safe.
Welcome! Take your ride to the new dealership. I have dealt with two dealerships here. The first one doesn't listen...very opinionated. I thought it was just the jerk I was talking with.....sadly no. They were all idiots. The second place is great. Friendly, helpful and willing to hear you out. Once the ticks are worked out I am sure you love the bike like the rest of us. Good luck and let us know what happens.
